Sorry I can't comment on the rifle. I'm too busy gagging from the picture. :-)

Can we hope that they have paid more attention to accuracy than normal?

I like my ruger pistols but never could bring myself to buy a ruger 77 because of the accuracy issues.  I'll watch this one just in case it will shoot with the Rem 788s, 700s  and Savages I have.

Good review, but do you really think Ruger would render their inaccurate 77's obsolete with a low price rifle?

If it has reasonable accuracy they will sell plenty of them. Every gun maker has a cheap model out these days, Ruger didn't really have a competitive piece.

I never really understood the cheap gun market from mfg producing quality rifles already.  The only one to get it right was Savage marketing the Stevens rifles because they were the old 110's and lacked an accu-trigger.  Remington got the inexpensive route right with the SPS series firearms, but why Savage and Remington are still producing bottom tier rifles that are woefully inaccurate and flimsy.  If they would just focus more on sticking with their main line of products (700's for example) and just making different grades of them ranging from a 300.00 package up to your hearts desire I think it would make more money and in the end be better on the consumer because of available upgrades that you would have due to aftermarket productions for popular designs.

It looks ..ok.. to me.  But if its under MOA  than I don't care what it looks like.  Ruger has a bad rep. for their barrels,  I will closely watch the reviews of this new rifle.  It reminds me of a Savage edge (axis), I have 2 of those, and they are MOA or under.  Bob

Even if you can find this "thing" for $375, by the time you pay insta-check and sales tax, your gonna be at $400+.    For that, with a little looking around, you could get a Model 77, in walnut, in VG+ condition.

Why buy cheap junk when you don't have to?

Interesting,  something to complete pricewise against the Stevens 200 & Savage Axis, as well as the Marlin XL/
xs rifles and Mossberg rifles.....chuckle, don't think the Remington 770 rates being competition....Sorry Swampman.

Anyway, only cartridge I'd be interested in is the 7mm-08 and drat....not availabe in this rifle.

Nobody said anything about the 770.  You can buy a new Model 700 for that price.

The styling is similar to the Steyr pro hunter in many respects. Wonder if they intend to bring that model to Europe?

Please provide a link for the 700 for the price of that that Ruger American I looked on gun broker and couldn’t find one and know our local prices and were more than a few bucks apart.

I don't have to prove anything.  I don't even care.  If you want a Remington 710 knockoff, the new Ruger American may be for you.  For the same money I'll buy a new Model 700.

Well, I don't necessarily share Swampy's undying love for the Rem 700, but I did happen to be in Walmart tonight, and seen the 700 with a plastic stock for $399.00.

And you get a cheap scope and mounts......

I don't understand what all the accuracy trashing is all about with Rugers. I have three of them and they all shoot fine. I have two All Weather MKII's in 25-06 that will cut the same hole with the right loads and a Tang Safety in 30-06 that is under a minute.

I do believe the 700's can be had for $400 but they're cheap looking and feeling. Gone is the desirable, under $400 rifle. Even though I don't need a new gun, I still keep a-breast of the current market prices to identify and "deal" and there isn't anything out there for under $400 that's worth owning. Used walnut 77's are bringing close to $500 and certainly not $375.

I can't speak about the 700 price from personal experience but the MSRP on Davidson's web site for the cheapest 700 is $709 and the nice ones top $1,000.
What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger!

The really nice thing about the cheap Model 700 ($399.00 with scope and mounts) is that it shoots sub-MOA right out of the box and there are tons of inexpensive parts that will make it a Classic, CDL, or BDL.  I'm not interested in foreign made rifes, removable magazines,  or rifles with plastic fire control parts.
