Punks dumped nails.

Thurs we stopped at a store 30 mi from home, I noticed a tire going flat, we went quickly to BIG O. The mgr said, you gotta see this. I went out there and there were 2 nails in 1 back tire, 3 in the other, and 1 in a front tire. They were all NEW 1 in roofing nails. Our mail lady has made several trips for flats and said there was no new const on her route. Somebody dumped a bunch out towards the end of our road. Some neighbor boys went up there and swept them off the road the best they could and another neighbow took a big magnet and collected about 10 lbs of new nails. I got the paper yesterday morning and stopped just off the hwy and I picked up 42 nails on the side of the rd in about 20 ft. I started having trouble breathing so came home. There are 15 families on the road in about 2 + miles and I believe they got all of us. One guy had 29 nails in his tires. Yesterday an elderly neighbor called and asked us to take her to the hospitol. We did, had I picked up any more nails she might have died. This really frosts my butt. I called it in but will go see the sheriff in the next few days. POWDERMAN.

When caught, I hope they are charged with 1 ct of wanton endangerment for every man, woman, and child on this road. What if somebody had a heart attack, or a bad fire?? Several folks were late for work, including a soldier on the road. Just a matter of time til some punk starts bragging about this. POWDERMAN.

  We had a neighbor dump nails on a two track road so other people wouldn,t ride horses on the two track. When the police  were called and they talked to her, she addmitted to them she did it. A city person that moved to the country and did not like horses walking by her house. Smog causes brain damage!

Sounds like the nit wits who bought expensive homes in a new housing development in a very rural part of southern New Jersey.   They started a petition to shut down a nearby gun/hunting club that had been there for decades because they were afraid of stray bullets.  Another favorite of mine are the morons who buy homes near airports then complain about the noise.

Powderman, are you sure those nails didn't just fall of the back of some roofers truck.  Seems like an awful lot of nails (expence) for kids to come up with as a practical joke.

When I read this I thought maybe some scumbag trying to get someone stranded out by themself where they could rob them or worse. Be careful.

BRETT. There is no new construction for at least 10-12 miles and certainly not on my road. Our local mail carrier has a large route and she said there is no building going on around here. There was no box, and they appeared to have been spread, not dropped. I'm going to file a police report tomorrow. Another neighbor is going to take a big magnet up there tomorrow. POWDERMAN.

That would not qualify as a "practical joke" in my book.  If the culprit/culprits are caught, they should have to pay for all the damage and then be shot with a nail gun.

Back in the 70's a guy here streached a wire across a woods road people rode bikes on. It was a branch off a road where it was OK to ride but he didn't want riders on his land. After a guy lost his head when the wire cut it off the guy was arrested and released on bond. The case was in court until a couple years ago. In the end the guy was fined. I went to church with the guy who was killed and a friend with the guy who found him. The rider had taken a wrong turn as the others in front of him had not turned. There was no sign up to warn him.
I wonder what wrist slap a guy spilling nails will get ?

I went to the sheriffs office today, they didn't seem  very interested. He said probly fell off a truck, I said, wheres the box?? He  said, you don't know it was intentional, I said, you don't know it wasn't. He said the most anybody could be chgd with was criminal mischief. I insisted he take my name and phone # as I wanted to press chgs if they were caught. I told him that several yrs ago some punks ball batted every mailbox on the road. We didn't even know they were caught til we read it in the paper that they had gone to court, found guilty, and given community service, they didn't pay for even ONE mailbox they destroyed, all my neighbors and I did. POWDERMAN.

My wifes cousin was in a serious motorcycle accident a few years back-seems somebody dumped 5 gallons of oil on a sharp corner on the highway out near Palmdale outside LA.,and it looked like a wrecking yard

How about city folks who buy a house right next to a working farm, because "it's cute".  They then complain about the noise from the animals and farm machinery early in the morning.  Then about the smell when the farmers spread manure to fertilize the fields.

Pw - Had the same thing happen on my road twice.  The second time they were caught, luckily the judge in my area was a little tougher, they were fined, given community service, and forced to pay restitution only for the time they were caught, not the first time.  Me and my neighbors had to pay for the new mailboxes destroyed the first time.  Unfortunately, the only way to solve this is if they were caught in the act.

A friend of mine living in Houston had similar thing happening in his neighborhood over a period of a few weeks. He went out and sank a pipe concrete, poured concrete down the pipe and then filled the inside of the mailbox 1/2 full of concrete. Sure enough when the little deviants ball batted it a week or so later the Kid who was hanging out of the car swinging the bat  broke his arms when they snapped back and hit the door frame.

His parents had the nerve to try and press charges against my friend and recover the Kids medical bills. They even tried to get the police to arrest him for endangering the life of their kid and reported him to the post office general for tampering with federal property.  What?? great parenting skills.
