Douglas, we hope there isn't any problems, but something must be up, for you to make this statement. Do you have any desire to enlighten us as to this decision? We will be anxious to hear Graybeards response, too!  BoomLover Jim

I personally would hate to see you give it up although I don't know what is going on in your life right now. Have you considered a sabatical rather than resignation?  No matter what you decide please know that your help has been appreciated more than may be apparent. Respectfully, LS

Nothing can diminish the hundreds and hundreds of good things that you have done for this wonderful forum.  We sure hope you will reconsider, but if that is not possible, Mike and I hope you will give us regular updates on your super sturdy, K.I.S.S. Bowling Ball Mortar Project.

Sincerely,

I do not know what has brought about this request & hope that it was not some misunderstanding on the board.  We don't always agree but I always respect your opinion.  I Admin or Moderate other boards & it can be a daunting & sometimes thankless task.
I want to THANK YOU for all you have done.
You have to do what is right for you but this board will be lessened without you.

Douglas, I am sadly taken aback by this. All of the years of your selfless dedication to making this a truly Internationally known forum. You will be sorely missed.

Unfinished business

The Montana shot is not a GBO event. It is an event of the Cut Bank Sportsman Association (CBSA)and will continue.  If the new moderators keep the Upcoming Cannon shoots and events sticky, I will post the announcement there.  Details will also appear in the CBSA page on my website http://www.southafricancannons.org/pages/CBSA.html and in the CBSA blog at http://www.cutbanksportsman.blogspot.com/

DD,
Thanks for all of your hard work on the forum!  I'm not very chatty on this (or any other) forum, but I'm a regular reader and particularly appreciate the way you have encouraged safety and kept things on topic.  I can understand that you might need a break from this thankless task, but I hope you keep posting!
I love your KISS golf ball mortar design and I can't wait to see how the KISS bowling ball mortar comes out.
thanks again,

DD, I am sorry you have made this decision. But like so many others on here I will not debate your decision. I was lucky enough to meet you and a couple of friends you brought to Mississippi on your travels. I had the pleasure of having a meal together. You are a great person Douglas and you will be missed.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I need a break.  It was MY decision to leave the position of co-moderatorship.  I do wish that Douglas would continue as moderator.
I'll pitch back in from time to time after a couple of months.

Doug and Tim have both resigned from their positions as moderators of this forum. I have recommendations from them and others as to possible replacements for them. I will contact two folks who have been highly recommended to see if they wish co-moderate or if one or the other prefers to moderate alone.

Until I contact them and hear back I don't know if either will accept.

I have honored the requests by Tim and Doug both and removed their names as moderators. I wasn't able to convince them them to stay on. I'm sure both have their own personal reasons. I believe both will continue to post here and who knows someday might again want to moderate but until such time I will honor their wishes and we'll move on.

Thanks for your efforts, Doug.  Modding takes its toll on you, no matter how pleasant it may be.  And then there is that pesky thing known as "Life."    Sometimes you just gotta step back.

I hope that it's just moderator burn out, and not something serious.

Keep your powder dry and mind the safety zones.  God bless and keep you safe.

I've been dealing with some serious family health matters recently, and was floored when I checked in this morning only to be met by this topic; so it's going to take some time to digest this unwanted news.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Based on some comments here, and the comments in the email and PM's I have been getting, I need to clear the air about something.

Lately, I have grown more and more weary fighting the same battles over and over again; max powder  charge, thinner barrels , and welded seam liner.  The attacks have become more and more vicious of late.

I have always been a lightening rod on these discussions.  I willingly accepted that role.  Unfortunately I find this role to be more and more disruptive on the board and wearing on me.

I  told Tim, a week or so ago, I have had enough.  Tim said, “if you go I go.”

I am only gone as moderator.  I am still around but will not be taking part in the heavy discussions. There will be no daily post from me.  I will report on projects and nothing more.

Tim was the person who fronted the idea for this board. I only seconded his motion. Even though I was the more vocal and more visible moderator, I have always considered this Tim's board.

I appreciate Tim's loyalty to me, but he doesn't  need to leave  because I step down.

I want him to continue on as the moderator...or at least as Moderator Emeritus.
