2012 - a Handi year!
« on: January 06, 2012, 04:51:03 AM »
As I posted on Handi success stories, that thread saved me a lot of agonising over what rifles to hunt with next season.  I just went down the list and selected the cartridges with the fewest kills, compared that to the rifles I have that I haven't killed a deer with and BINGO!  Next years lineup!   8)

It is:
7x57     - no kills
.25-06  - no kills
.280     - 1
.45 Colt  - 1
.500 S&W - 4
.444 Marlin - 6

That's my order and I'm stickin to it!   ;D  The 500 and 444 will be backups with the first 4 as primaries.  Works out great since that's how many deer I ... um... shoot for each year!   ::)  'course I really want to use that 500...  :-\  Oh well...

Now I can concentrate on working up loads for each rifle so my range trips are all planned out also!  Life is good!   :D

Oops!  Almost forgot!   ::)

I also have that .45 Huntsman.  Guess I'll have to hunt the muzzleloader season also.  Darn!   ;D

My list would include: (not going by the success page at all here, just lack of hunting use at my house)
44 mag, 22-250, 22 hornet, .223 I think these are my only Handis that have not killed biggish game. The .22s I hope would be on coyote or fox, but the 44 has been sitting there over a year and only shot stuff at the range. So it may be first on the list, but you never know by then I may have my 35 Remington I have wanted.... I better wait and make my list then, things sometimes change at the last minute. ;D

Since you haven't been able to take the 7x57 hunting :o , I would be more than willing to exercise it for you.  ;) ;D
P.S. I would also definitely be willing to adopt it  Let us know how you make out next year.

I'd leave it to him in my Will but he wants it so bad I'm afraid that might have a detrimental effect on my longevity!   :D ;)

Thanks for the advice, Tom! As a matter of fact, I have a 7mm-08 project in the works. It's gonna get a rim counterbore cut and I plan to use 307 Win brass for loading it. ;) In the end, that's what I wanted with the 7x57, only it shoots the 7x57R version. ;)

Richard can sleep well now.... :D

Dinny - 7x57R?  Actually isn't it more like a 7-07R? But great idea let us know how that works out.
