Remington Model 10 pump shotgun
« on: January 06, 2012, 06:38:55 AM »
I have an old Remington model 10 shotgun that was my dad's do-all gun for a long time. Somehow the barrel developed a bulge just in front of the yoke. I sent to Numrich arms and got a new barrel (new to me anyhow), and had it blued to better match the gun. In the process of changing the yoke over to the new barrel I find that there are two different spots underneath the barrel where the yoke screw can settle into the barrel. My question is, which hole do I use? There's a 3/4" difference between the two. And if anybody does know which one, do they also know why they did it that way? Thanks.

I would measure the location on the old barrel and use the hole that corresponds.  The new barrel may have been used on a different model at some time and was tapped to fit.  If the extra hole is obvious when assembled, you can always plug it.

That would solve the problem, but unfortunately old barrel also has two holes and somebody (we won't mention any names) had a senior moment and didn't note which hole was which. Both holes are worn just about identically which really confuses me because the gun came to my father in the 50's, and to the best of my knowledge, he never had the yoke off the barrel.

I pulled the barrel and mag tube from my model 10 but couldn't see but one screw going into the yoke.  The screw is only threaded where it goes thru the yoke and appears to fit in an unthreaded hole in the barrel. When the barrel is screwed in the receiver, the center of the screw is about 16 & 3/16" from the receiver.  Hope that helps.

Sorry I wasn't clearer. What you refer to as unthreaded hole in the barrel is what I am speaking of. There are two in each barrel.

A friend of mine had a Mod 10 back in the early 60's.  It would fire fully automatic.  I guess something was worn out.
