Santorum’s voting record shows that he embraced George Bush–style “big-government conservatism.” For example, he supported the Medicare prescription-drug benefit and No Child Left Behind.
He never met an earmark that he didn’t like. In fact, it wasn’t just earmarks for his own state that he favored, which might be forgiven as pure electoral pragmatism, but earmarks for everyone, including the notorious “Bridge to Nowhere.” The quintessential Washington insider, he worked closely with Tom DeLay to set up the “K Street Project,” linking lobbyists with the GOP leadership.
He voted against NAFTA and has long opposed free trade. He backed higher tariffs on everything from steel to honey. He still supports an industrial policy with the government tilting the playing field toward manufacturing industries and picking winners and losers.
In fact, Santorum might be viewed as the mirror image of Ron Paul. If Ron Paul’s campaign has been based on the concept of simply having government leave us alone, Santorum rejects that entire concept. True liberty, he writes, is not “the freedom to be left alone,” but “the freedom to attend to one’s duties to God, to family, and to neighbors.” And he seems fully prepared to use the power of government to support his interpretation of those duties.

at least he's straight forward about things.
I'm amazed that folks don't know about RPs earmark/pork subterfuge.

He says you don't understand the process.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWTyHbGcUQY
uh, I understand how he loads the budget with his earmarks/pork, then points out to his constintuents how he votes against the budget, but then says, well if I don't spend it, obama will.
if he hadn't requested the money, it wouldn't be there for obama to spend.
he tells big'uns just like any other politician.

He say't that you still don't understand.

"The misconception seems to be that members of Congress put together a bunch of requests for project funding, add them all together and come up with a budget. The truth is, it is not done that way. The total level of spending is determined by the Congressional leadership and the appropriators before any Member has a chance to offer any amendments. Members’ requests are simply recommendations to allocate parts of that spending for certain items in that members’ district or state. If funds are not designated, they revert to non-designated spending controlled by bureaucrats in the executive branch. In other words, when a designation request makes it into the budget, it subtracts funds out of what is available to the executive branch and bureaucrats in various departments, and targets it for projects that the people and their representatives request in their districts."

In other words, Ron Paul, who is opposed to income taxes, tries to get some of that money back for the people rather than letting Obama spend it. (Kind of like Robin Hood you know.)

Gary G, I know how it's done.  it's just like a home budget.  you may stick to the budget, but if your wife adds a diamond ring every month, you might soon be in deficit spending.
pork is pork whether it's put in by the most evil democrat or a republican who's trying to convince everyone that he has a halo.

I wonder if you do? Let's say that your home budget is $800 per week. If your wife earmarks $500 of that to spend on a ring that leaves you with $300 to buy other things. Still only $800 is spent.

I thought we were talking about a budget.  I would hope that my wife would ask for a vote before earmarking a huge amount.  but earmarks in congress are not discussed because they are pork.
can you imagine giving the shrimp industry millions to learn how to sell shrimp. ::) they've been doing it long enough to know how.  I've been skinning squirrels for 60 years and worked out the best system for me. but I wish someone would pay me to try another way.

I like Sanitorium's stand on contraception.  If he gets the nomination, it guarantees an Obama landslide victory.
I also like Perry's recent call to send the troops back to Iraq.  I wish he would tell it in person to the troops President Obama brought home.  Like in person in private--so they could tell him to get a rifle and go yourself you stupid &^%$#@&*.  If he gets the nomination, guess who wins by a landslide?

OSR. In a world without liberals and other mentally defective folks you would be right, and I hope you are. I remember when clinton ran for the 1st time and he said on natl tv, THERES NO REASON FOR A PRIVATE CITIZEN TO OWN A GUN, thats why we have the military and police. I thought for sure that buried him, but liberals were stupid enough to elect him TWICE. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

A revolution over birth control pills or condoms?  When you say that, it makes me think that you really underestimate the intelligence of American women, and the American public in general.
While I'm not in favor of late term abortions, I wouldn't let that one factor decide who I would vote for.  The same would go for the women vote.  Most people aren't one issue voters.
Barry has managed to get everyone angry at him, thus my comment that Howdy Doody would beat him.

The old line GOP supporters can't think in these terms. It is against thier indoctrination. It is evil. They don't trust thier own intellience. They must support what they have been told is the truth. Don't dare ask them to think for themselves. ear
