From the Daily News Miner. This ought to provide some fuel for discussions 'round the wood stoves while its so blazing cold outside.
Wonder if this is the last of it or if he'll appeal.

Updated 7:38 p.m.FAIRBANKS - A misdemeanor criminal case out of the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve that sparked a larger controversy last summer over federal policing power on rivers in national parks in Alaska came to something of a conclusion Friday afternoon with a sentencing hearing at the Fairbanks Federal Courthouse.
Central resident Jim Wilde, 71, who cursed at two park rangers and avoided stopping his boat for an inspection last summer, received a $2,500 fine Friday and a reprimand from Magistrate Scott Oravec for what Oravec called a “willful” violation of the law.
“We are here today because of your actions and the consequences of your actions,” Oravec told Wilde.
Oravec said the trial showed that Wilde was to blame for not responding to rangers’ orders and for creating a dangerous situation on the river. He said a significant fine was necessary as a deterrent for Wilde and others. However, he said additional jail time or probation were not merited based on Wilde’s minimal criminal record.
The fine is a fraction of the $40,000 Wilde reportedly spent on his legal defense.
