Prevarication or prestidigitation ?
« on: January 07, 2012, 12:21:27 AM »
Simply put...is it a case of lying or just trickery ?
Do you recall back when some folks were hitting the gas instead of the brake, smashing into stores, trees and other cars..then blaming Toyota for their "screw-up" ?  The Obama administration climbed all over those excuses-cum-lies, gave Toyota a whole bushel of bad publicity and fines !  Now...for a REAL problem...
There have been 8,000 Chevy Volts built...and some of them have actually been sold; and the buyer been given a $7,000.00 check from the taxpayers for doing so. !
Problem #1; the Volts are blowing up and burning.  All 8,000 Volts (new & used) are being recalled..So a press release is issued; a masterful job of softpedalling..   http://www.greenpacks.org/2012/01/06/8000-chevrolet-volts-to-be-recalled-for-battery-pack-spruce-up/

So, why isn't the government doing the same level of blustering and posturing they did with the (proven) false accusations against Toyota ?  Where are the govt apologies for Toyota ?

So why isn't the govt starting a suit against Chevy ?  Couldn't be simply because the govt would be 'suing itself'... being as the govt has inserted itself into the auto building business ?
BTW: each volt produced by Government Motors has cost taxpayers $250,000.  Then with the $7,000 they customers are paid just to buy one, that comes to $257,000.00 each.  A bargain @ half the price .. ;)   :D   ;D   ;D

Just a common-sense note...
Socialism/communism cannot build a decent anything, much less a car..

A) Russia couldn't do it in more than 70 years.

B) Castro hasn't done it in 55 years.

C) Eastern Europe (Slavic countries) couldn't do it under the socialist thumb.

Then there are the "comparative economies"

 1) Socialist East Germany vs West Germany.

 2) Socialist North Korea vs  South Korea..           WELL...... DUUUUUUH, BARRY !!!

Now how did you say the Volt cost taxpayers $257,000 per unit...??  One of my wife's friends actually bought one...they have driven around 3500 miles in 3 months....electric bill at home went up $31/mo...and they figured they used 1.5 gal of gas in the same period. Personally, I wouldn't buy one at this time, but that does seem like a 'breakthru' of sorts.

According to various news sources there have bee12000 units produced, if you divide the number produced into the taxpayers $$$$$$$$$$ Obama handed to the project, they come out to $250,000 each.  Then add the $7,000 the govt (taxpayers) pay each customer to buy one , it comes to $257, 000.
Market segment is primarily movie celebrities and the idle rich.  One wonders how the public feels abut helping to buy cars for the likes of Brad Pitt and George C Looney ?.

Being that government is involved, $250,000 per each in tax money is probably a low number. I'd be willing to bet its much higher than that with costs we know nothing about. Government will spend billions of tax payer money to try and market these pieces of junk that nobody wants. Its just what government does.
