Got 4 tree rats with the new Henry
« on: January 08, 2012, 10:58:29 AM »
I took the dog and the Henry to part of the swamp I've never been.  The squirrels were thick in there.  He treed 5 times.  We got 4 of them.  The Henry did well.  Had 4 Head shots.  I missed a couple of times as well.  Those long shots shooting free handed are tough.  I like the gun a lot but I need a better scope.  I have a BSA 22 special and it blows.  The parallax is set at 100 yards and it isn't very clear.

What kind of ammo are you using in it?

The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

I'm using CCI Mini mag.  They seem to group pretty good.  I give the standard velocity CCI hollow points a slight edge in the accuracy.  I ended up with the weaver 2.5x7-28 rim fire scope.  I went out yesterday and killed 5.  I lost my front site hood in the process.  I'm going to call Henry and try to order another.

Way to go.  I've noticed my front hood is loose also.

Because I own 3 marlin 39s I havent felt the need to buy a Henry, but it's good to hear their accurate enough for squirrel hunting... The only rifle my brother ever owned that I knew about, was a old winchester pump carbine with a octagon barrel & exposed hammer. All he ever shot in it was 22shorts. Kept his freezer full of squirrels and killed his pen raised hogs just fine with that combonation.  ;)

What breed of dog do you have?

Hay Stumpjmpr,

I've been looking at some sqyirrel dogs. Not much use for one in Alaska, but someday I'll move back to a warmer climate. Interested in a Decker Terrier. Found a breeder in Atlanta.  ;)

I don't know much about a Decker Terrier.  NKC feist are from proven tree dogs.  In order to get registered the dogs must pass field trials.  Their off spring can be NKC registered if the paper work is kept up.
