I don't see any point in the "other" box, but as long as it's there, I might check it and write myself in. On the other hand, I did pick Perry, even though it looks like he has about as much chance as I would have. At least Perry is presently running a state that is bigger in most ways than a lot of countries and at least by reports, it is doing quite well.
My life experience has been that often times the best leaders are not always the brightest, nor the most glib. Common sense and the ability to keep things in perspective is at least as important as an outward display of high minded thought.
In theory, I agree with much of what Ron Paul says--with a few exceptions. But even if the world were to take a sudden swerve to the right and Paul somehow caught on, at best he could only be a finger in the dike against a majority Congressional coalition that would never take him seriously. Ron Paul would be over 80 years old in his first term. With the pressures of the Presidency, it's not irrelevant to ponder which would expire first--the term, or the President.
The field will be winnowed down soon enough and no matter who gets the nod, I will vote for the Republican--warts and all and be content that if he wins, the obamunist will be history. And that will be the best thing to happen for this country in my lifetime.
