Coons & Weather
« on: January 18, 2004, 02:07:31 PM »
:D  Howdy boys this is my first time to post on a forum so here goes. This is also my first season to seriously trap. So.......yep you guessed it I'm just full of questions. Have read other forums & no luck registering but read everything. I've noticed MR. Asa Lenon on all of them & would  take your advice most seriously. I am starting out with coons first, then I will move up to fox & yotes. Finaly my question is about weather & how it affects coon movement & how much & what types. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast
but anybodies advice is welcome.

                                               Thanx in advance: Tabbycat Elkins

Coon move before and after weather changes. If its hot and cools down- they move. If its cold and it warms up- they move.

Soft, misty nights in the 40s is about perfect for coon.

Moon- I've had some real good nights on full moon and bad nights- a lot depends on other factors.

What limit coon movement is a real drastic temp drop- they will slow down or hole up for a few days.  Real windy nights aren't real good- and  hard rain will cause coon to lay up.

 Thanx for the info trappnman. I've been wondering about this. It stumped me pretty hard when I would work really hard at my sets with high hopes when a cold front was in. Tha's how green I am. Being an avid deer hunter I thought surely they would move when the temp dropped like the deer do! LOL!!!
