does anyone know the age and value of this very nice scope.
it has the granite matte finish, nice clear glass and a semi heavy duplex.
i tried to search many sites for it but, came up empty handed other than its been discontinued.

I have had a couple John!
 
 They are OK plenty serviceable. As much as I am a Leupold man, I have had very good luck with the Simmons line too. I think I still have one of these on a 22 in the back of the safe...
 
I would avoid using it for extreme duty or on a super kicker, but general use of the majority of calibers... If the price is right I bet it will be just fine.
 
These where 169 for a long time, last I saw these at was about 100$ so I would not pay over $60-75 for a nice specimen...

 I mounted that same scope on a friend's 6.5x.257, and used it and my reloads for 3 years. For being an inexpensive scope, I was impressed with the low light transmission, clarity and reliability. Never had any problems with the scope, and it went through about 400 rounds as it took quite a few shots to work up a very accurate load. The scope was discontinued about 8 years ago and you can still buy them NIB at Natchez for $59.95.

ive got a 2.5x8 whitetail on one of my 22s. It has decent optics for the price range they sold them it but its very poor in eye relief and thats why it ended up on a 22.

The ONE Simmons scope I have ever bought was just the one you ask about. I bought it new sometime shortly after we started GBO but I don't recall the date. We started GBO in '97 so some time in the late '90s.

It was the single sorriest excuse for a scope it has ever been my misfortune to waste money on. I cannot say how representative it was of others like it. I gave it away and have never again bought a Simmons scope nor will I ever again. I personally would not give $20 for a NIB one. Good luck with it if you buy it, you'll need it.

I just gave two away along with a couple Bushnells no sence in missing a shot over cheap optics.
