Bought new truck insurance and this ticked me off!!!!!!!

The employees at onstar can listen in while you are in the car and you will never know. Whether you have the service or not. You cant turn it off. You can only stop the service.
When I heard they could listen in, in 2005 when I got my Impala I call them and asked how to cut it off, was told I couldn't. I then asked if they could listen in and they said they would be fired if they did but they could. I can see a room full of bored low paid operators not listening in. The few times I used it the person on the other end had such heavy ebonics I could not hardly understand them. I got rid of the service but its still there like big brother.

Progressive Insurance is a very left leaning Co that supports the present Admin. I will not deal with them period. They are big in FL and probably other southern States .

Your 100% correct, Progressive Ins is owned by Peter Lewis, who donates heavily to groups like the ACLU, anti-gun causes.  The insurance company's name should have given you a hint.

I'm already aware of that.  They can tell which towers you are close to, but they can't tell exactly were the phone is if you fix your settings correctly.

Maximum deflection is to not exceed 30 feet so no it isn't exact but in the grand scheme of things, it's close enough.

During the first year of Onstar being active there was big concerns about the privacy issues but they quickly dissipated.  I always wondered who got paid off or otherwise quieted down to allow a go ahead.  Gives the term government motors a more realistic twist doesn't it?

Because your phone is in constant contact with the towers and going from one to another as you move. That's how you know you have service .

 Like noted in an early post we had phones that the user could turn the GPS feature off and we could turn it on so they didn't know . It worked with the phone off if memory was correct. The thing was that depending on location we either got a tower location ( tower phone was communicating with) or a GPS location . GPS location was not always aval. Heavy clouds in the area could disrupt it . We went to GPS in the trucks and stopped using that cell provider.

We don't use cell phones any more since we are in a no connection zone or the billing became an issue with several different Co. I suppose removing the battery would stop the broadcasting of your location.
 
After reading all of the above I'm eyeballing with displeasure the ON-Star antennae on the roof of our truck.

This is all very disturbing to me, I don't understand WHO is doing the monitoring  either. Why would net 10 need, or even WANT to know where I am?? POWDERMAN.

Unless you are breaking the law, what is the big deal?  Is it not good that we catch criminals and recover stollen vehicles using this technology?  If your children were kidnapped, would you be opposed to this use if it enabled their recovery?  Are you glad everyone doesn't pay the same car/truck insurance rates?  I like getting a safe driver discount.  I like other people paying more, if their lifestyle and driving habits warrant it.  What is the objection unless you have something to hide from.
