Say you bunch of Yoopers! What is the weather like around the third week of March, Marquette area? Will the Lake still be frozen? Will there still be snow in the woods?

There isn't much snow up there now. Course tomorrow that might change. Typically in March we get a blizzard or two, but the snow is on the run. Typically there will be at least some snow in the woods.

There isn't much up there now, but tomorrow that may change. Snow fall depends somewhat on if the lake freezes over or not. And yes, there probably will be at least some snow in the woods. March is usually good for at least one blizzard if not several.

I suppose the highway department is good about plowing the roads,etc when that happens? I don't want to get snowed in, just a four day hunt for those Raging Russians.

They've been moving snow up there for a few years

I can promise nobody moves snow any better than the city and county up there.

we got a bit of snow yesterday but not what they predicted. Its been a unbeilivably mild winter up here so far. Just was talking to some guys at the mechanic shop yesterday and they were saying that the lake level is suppose to be at a record low next summer due to the mild winters. Im only a few hundred yards from lake superior and the pond in my back yard stays at the same level as the lake and last year i saw it lower then its ever been by about a foot. When i was a teenager we were usually snomobiling by the last week of november. Anymore you cant count on there being snow till after the frirst of the year. At least not enough to snowmobile properly.

We always took a week vacation the 2nd. week of march to snomobile in the UPPER. The first year we had 27 inches of new snow when we got there. We never did have a year when there wasn't snow on the ground and ice on the lakes. We used to run across the river to get into Paridice rather than take the hyway bridge too.

If your up for a boar hunt things should be fine. Just gear up for cold or cool & have your gun ready.

I am coming with a friend who was raised over in Sault St. Marie, and he has been out to the lodge there, met the owner. I just wanted to hunt out in those North woods with snow on the ground, don't need no stinking blizzard, ha. We have had a dry winter so far also, here in Salt Lake Valley, but just now getting some snow up high. I much prefer hunting when it's cold as opposed to being hot! It's why i don't go down home and visit relatives/hunt exotics in Texas in the warm months anymore! ha. I am really looking forward to visitng the place, I've never seen the Great lakes, or anything west of Maine, Vermont, NH, Mass up that far North. I think the fence around the property where I'm going is high enough to keep Bigfoot out, but I would like to see him anyway!

one thing about that paradise area is theres snow there when theres no snow anywhere else. We used to go out in the spring in shirt sleaves and snowmobile that area when the snow in munising was all gone.

as to snow in the woods or the lake still being froze toward the end of march its pot luck. Ive seen it well into april but ive also seen the ice go away and most of the snow by then.

We just now started getting snow up high, but still verylittle on the valley floor. I'm sure it will be cool enough on the UP for me, ha. I think even if it warms up during the day over freezing there will be ice in the mornings. I hate mud, would much rather have snow on the ground. I'll take what comes, getting jazzed now.

According to this report there is anywhere from 14 to 24 inches of snow on the ground now.

I live 6.5 miles out of the city of Marquette and there isn't very much snow. Last March the snow left very fast and actually was a very dry spring.

Thanks Yooper77, I'm sure it will be cool enough for me! Being a transplanted SE Texas boy here to Utah, I got spoiled hunting in cold weather/snow, ha. I had plenty of cold weather/snow as a soldier in Germany, back in early seventies, I much preferred the snow to mud then, as any soldier would, ha. It was wet snow too, so the dryer climate of Utah is great! I can walk around in 20 deg weather with just a light jacket on! 28 deg in SE Texas froze water pipes and shut everything down, ha!
I don't need the lake to be frozen as I am not planning on ice fishing, just wanted to see something like that. Our high reserviors freeze over and people ice fish on them. Not me, I've seen too many "B" movies of trucks falling through the ice, etc. ha.

with this unbeiveably warm weather were having i doubt the lake will even freeze this year. I was looking at munising bay this week and its not even froze out to open water yet and with this warm snap even the ice fisherman are taking shacks off the bay. Usually by now theres ice out as far as a guy can see. Took a ride to marquette yesterday and it seemed like as soon as you got out of Alger county the snowmobile triais were half dirt.

Almost nothing here in southern Wis. Lake Mich is not frozen even in the port. It is going to be a very tough winter on the wolves. The deer are most likely still eating grass in northern Wis. I think we needed a really mild winter especially in northwest Wis.

Thanks jeff! I fell in love with big woods/snow while in Southern Bavaria, it really "satisfies my soul", ha. I may do some walking around, but I most likely will be in a heated blind, setting up an ambush on Ol Porky. I played "footsie" too many times as a teen in Texas with hogs! ha.

Yes, early March gave us a little snow in Marquette, but spring is in the air.

I heard there should be a tiny cold front coming in a few days, but the warmer air will turn this UP into soup.

Last couple days and nights in Marquette brought a little dust of snow, but nothing reportable.

I currently have 63 degrees Fahrenheit in the sun and the next 4 days report temps highs from 48 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit with sun and rain.

yup it was near 60 here yesterday and is suppose to be today too. theyve even got flash flood warnings up for some areas. Aint going to be much snow left after this.
