(WHAS11)- Two different bills designed to curb meth abuse in Kentucky are set to be discussed Thursday in Frankfort and it could impact you and what you buy over the counter.

One would create a registry of people convicted of selling or making meth.  Anyone on that registry attempting to buy medicine with pseudoephedrine would be flagged.

It would also limit the amount of pseudoephedrine a person could buy each month.

Another bill would require prescriptions for pseudoephedrine to help track sales, similar to what they do with narcotics.

Some say any tracking is better than no tracking.

Last year, similar bills generated plenty of talk and opposition, but did not make it out off the senate or house floors.

What took them so long? We have had something like that for years. Annoying as hell when you go to buy over the counter sniffle pills.

Last years bill wanted folks to get prescriptions for those drugs, I used to take sudafed and actifed but doc said no so I now take chlortrimatron. If people had the money for dr appt to get a scrip they wouldn't be buying over the counter. That was a bad bill. POWDERMAN.

Meth isn't going to go away, it will just make it harder to buy cold medecine than it is to buy meth.

I just saw a special on this . Manufacturers of meth have people go into Drug stores by what needed to make the product , then the maker buys it up from them or trades drugs . They now can cook the stuff up in a car just using a 2 liter soda bottle. I forget what they called it but basically it equates to driving meth labs using a dry or cold cook process if I understood correctly. How the heck can you stop that? Now the makers are mobile.

I thought there was already a law on the books to regulate it. Every time I buy real sudifed I have to show my drivers license and they will only let me buy one or two boxes. Back when I was SCUBA diving I was taking it like candy to keep from rupturing my sinuses.

     Back abt. 8 yrs. ago we had a boat slip rented at a Marina, during one winter at night their was a bunch of boat breakins and all of them had their first aid kits stolen nothing else, I guess that there was something in the travel first aid kits that they were using to make the meth, I said that nothing else was stolen but some of us had coolers stolen also to use as barges to float the first aid kits to dry land, I suggest that they make it easier for them to get what they need and it wont be long and a large portion of them will be GONE.  Jim

The makers and the suppliers are a problem, I admit.  But the biggest problem is the users, if not for them there would be no market.  There would be no problem.  China had the cure.  Execute the users, cookers, and sellers, end of problem.

There is times when drastic measures are called for, I feel this is one of those times.

Agreed Sir. The makers don't care whose lives are ruined or who dies. The users don't care about anybody including their own families or children. Neither the makers or users contribute anything worthwhile to society. Sad to see lives wasted. POWDERMAN.

The 2 liter pop bottle method is correct, what they fail to understand is there is a chemical reaction involved and they've been burning apartments, houses and themselves around here. It has made for some interesting natural selection in eliminating or scarring for life the idiots cooking it. They also try to steal anhydrous ammonia from coops and farmers in containers not made to hold it and end up getting burned there too. Like the guy who put the container between his legs while he was driving...
Pseudoephedrine has been behind the counter around here for awhile and they keep a registry of who's buying.
