Pre 80 series Combat Commander comes home
« on: January 12, 2012, 01:52:09 PM »
This build was accomplished by Dave Erickson, Condition One Pistolsmithing.  Sadly, this is the last full build planned for this top tier pistolsmith; his professional interests have developed in other areas and he plans to pursue those fully.

This started life as a pretty stock, factory Combat Commander in 45 ACP.  The slide and frame remain Colt parts.  Finish is hard chrome 100% and the top end ion-bonded over that for the classic two-tone look but with extreme durability.  Sights are custom fixed with a 14k gold bead up front.  The gun has been acc-u-railed and is the best fitting 1911 I have ever handled; slick as butter and no slack anywhere.  Reliable 100% through the first 3000 rounds.  I am not a "pikker taker" but I can tell you every part of this gun was touched and massaged and it still remains 100% Colt in appearance - even the factory roll marks and rampant Colt were retouched.  Grips are from the structure of an F22 Raptor wing - carbon fiber.  Accurate...well, it stacks bullets right on top of one another with boring regularity.  The frame was gently relieved and massaged for slightly smaller hands and slight lack of right thumb mobility (old injury).  When working, the gun resides in an Alessi IWB black holster with shark skin trim.  It is is but a brief thought and movement away from being called upon and comfortable too.

Maybe some additional photos later will come out better; these really don't do this one justice.
