This is worth getting out and doing.  The last one I was just a spectator, this time I believe I will be participating.

a pointer to some past post on events at this lovely range.

Yes sir,

I will be there with one cannon and a mortar.
Must now purchase more cannon grade powder.

Friend Bob Sr & Jr. will be there also with their two cannons.

It will be another Blast.

I was at the last shoot and had a lot of fun. I'm hoping I can make this one too. If I do go I'll be bringing a 1" cannon and a golf ball mortar.

I was thinking if I could find my stack of old slow fire targets we might just have to see about knocking some holes in them for a few entries to the postal shoot.  Any one else up?  Obviously we will have to see if the postal shoot is still on.

Make sure the targets are B17's.

One last shameless bump to the top! The Clock is ticking.....

I have heard from at least one GB member that will attend.  I will be making the trip to Florida for this event. My grandson has also asked to go... So, it shall be granted. This will be his first cannon shoot. Hopefully, it will be a good one!

Is there anyone else who plans to attend? If so, we look forward to meeting you!  ;)

DD what have you got against these venerable aircraft?  They deserve better than target practice! And at the price one of these brings these days I think cheaper targets can be found......  ::)

If I make it down there probably wont shoot. Looking forward to coming out there though.  I will have a bunch of cardboard tubes as cartridge cases in some assorted sizes.  Any one interested?

Ok first want to say what a great event. You'al should-a been there!

Next wanted to pass my thanks on to Intoodeep and Captned. Great guys and alot of fun.  Thanks for letting me burn some powder with you.  carmy53 good to see you there too.  Glad you made the trip.

For the rest of you there was 8? pieces I believe. The gun club had a Stoke's style mortar converted over to muzzle loader that they brought out.  Three sledge type mortars, three cannon and the howitzer.

Well, I'm finally back.  I have to say that it was a PERFECT day! It was not to hot, cold or rainy... It was great meeting jamesfrom180 (Thanks for the tubes) and carmy53. Thanks for coming out. We had a fairly good turn out of shooters and it seemed like a pretty large amount of spectators.

Below are just a few photo and one video that I had taken. There just wasn't enough time to be snap happy with the camera.

Click below to see the Video. The grandson gives it a go...

What is a sledge mortar?

Sorry "sledge"referring to the mortar base, as in it was not a modern base plate or wheeled piece.   ::)

Guess better phrasing would have been 3 mortars, three cannon, and a howitzer.

The first time I saw sledge, I though you meant sled which some people incorrectly refer to mortar bases or carriages and just let it pass.

I got thinking we have folks here shooting pop cans full of cement, golf balls, bowling balls and anvils.  Maybe that Florida bunch had spent to much time out in the sun---they have a lot down there- and started a new game shooting hammers.....oh dear I hope I haven't given them any ideas!

This might come as a surprise but sledge is a sled.  Even though I have actually never actually touch a single snow flake I have used a sled.  Seems its a very useful way to get across some of the ground around here.  Seems some of our swamps tend to stick even tracked vehicles and what you do is rig up a long line and a sledge.  Pull the line from the hard ground and your load is sent out onto that muck.

Yes I used it in place of a mortar bed.   :-[

Though now that you have mentioned it I only have one anvil at this time but a good twenty pound BFH would work nicely.   8) Note please don't fire a hammer head off of an anvil.  I was thinking of using the head chained down to a very large piece of concrete and placing the anvil on top. If you are not familiar with anvil shooting don't do it.

I am having difficulty wrapping me head around this, but I think I got.

Intodeep lives in Lost Wages.
CptEd lives in Florida
CptEd is Intodeep's father.
The two people shooting the howitzer is CptEd's son and Grandson shooting in Florida.

Have I got it?

I have a similar situation.  Daughter and Grand daughter live in Illinois.  Son and Granddaughters live in Maryland.  I have objected to them living some far from Montana.  My son asked if my objection was becasue he was so far away or becasue the Grand daughters were so far away....I smiled  ;D

Oldest Grand daughter shots cannons  and gophers with me. She will be going off to College next year and will become an adult and not wanna do fun things....so I will have to train up the 3 year old and 5 year old to be cannon shooters.

College will make her an adult???  College usually delays that transition by at least 10 years, sometimes 20.

Now join the Army and go off to war; that makes people into adults.

I understand, but remember the military's mission is to defend the country, not the government or its current embodiment.

Captned and family were pretty cool to meet.  I hope to drag more members of my family out to this shoot in the fall.  Should be the first outing for the galloper swivel.

DoubleD my grandfather made me dig ditches with him. I didn't get to shoot cannons and things. When I came home I always saw him, even if I didn't see my family.  They even live in the same town.  I would imagine you spending quality time with your granddaughter will only pay good in the end.   8)
