Barrel stamping question
« on: January 14, 2012, 08:40:29 AM »
I just got back my receiver where I had a 357 barrel added to my SB2 frame.  I noticed that it is stamped SB2 on the barrel and had a proof test mark added.  I was just wondering if the SB1 complete rifles are marked the same or is it something they add only to SB2 frames as accessory barrels.

I think they stamp SB2 on all rifle barrels, irregardless what frame they are fitted to. I do not have a SB1 frame to double check.

I had my 357 barrel that is factory marked SB2 put on a SB1 frame. Didn't want anyone else to put the wrong barrel on the frame so i took the frame to a local jewelry store and had the SB1 engraved for $7.

That's a real good idea, too bad H&R won't consider doing this.

Not a bad idea at all. Especially when fitting a SB2 marked barrel to an SB1 frame. H&R should at least consider offering it as an option when fitting a new 357 or 44 barrel to a customers SB1 frame. If they took it upon themselves I can almost hear the howls from those who didn't want their receiver "marred" when sent in.
