Victor,  Can you direct us to such an eBay listing currently up (on eBay)?

What's a good 12-digit number to see one of those old wicks at eBay?  THANKS!

I think you mean the old mantles(?) New-made wicks are available from a number of sources and from what I read, they are the way to go. Old ones supposedly can deteriorate over time and not work well.

The mantles made in Brazil in the 70's are supposed give the best light output. I just bought two Brazil-made mantles like the one below for $34 shipped. That's about what two new-made ones cost...

THANKS  VICTOR!   For the skinny on the lamps and their parts/wicks,  and thadditional info!

This whole thread has been ..... informative!!   ;D   Glad to know certain wicks are a bit similar to different bulb wattages (within reason).   8)

With all the hurricanes and ergo power failures here in Southern Florida I have been using my Aladdin lamp for many years and find it to be awesome!

Today I bought 2 like new Aladdin Kerosene Model #23 Oil Lamp Burners for $3.00 a piece.  On is brass and one is nickle.  I also got an aluminum base and an electric convertor to $10.00.  Now all I need is a mantle and a chimney.

I inherited a couple Aladdin lamps I fixed one up to hopefully use but I trashed the wick putting it in.  It's rather frayed.  I don't know if I'll ever light it but it looks great just siting there.

I have a bunch of flat wick lamps, more than I'll ever need in an emergency.  I don't think the power has gone out here in the last 5 years.  One of these days I'll have to light them of atmosphere.

about the eighth post down on the first
page powderman mentions a kerosene
additive to put in your lamps.

what is it?

i have a half dozen or so at the farm.
the power regularly goes out and they
are genuinely needed and used. i also
use more lanterns than lamps- easier
and safer to move around and can be
stored hanging from a nail or peg out
of the way when not in use. one glass
lamp stays on the kitchen table. i have
a  3.00  thrift store 1912 model aladdin
to replace it with when i get around to
buying a new wick and globe and mantel.
