I am not much into new country , not enough bended chords if you know what I mean. I still like my old stuff. There are a very few new artist's I enjoy , (A few but not many). However here are two of the best produced video's I have seen a very long time. Thought I would share .

2. Marty Robbins
3. Roy Acuff
There are probably a few other too. Might even throw in Johnny Cash. $:-\$

Not bad, but still a long way from what I call Country!

As my Grandfather use to say, "Son, there is only two kinds of music. There is country and then there is all that other BS."

I grew up on the old stuff and thats about all I listen to today.

3. Lefty Frizzell
4. Gene Watson
5. Webb Perice
6. Hank Williams

And don't forget the Old "Mississippi Blue Yodler," Jimmy Rogers, perhaps the true father of country music.

There's still some good music being made out there.... it just doesn't get the same air play as this other junk. Look up Jake Hooker, Justin Trevino, Ron Williams and others. You wont find them on top 40 radio so check on the internet. You wont be disappointed.

Like i said rockbilly. There are probably a few others and darned if you didn't come up with three more of them. I have records of all of them but Gene Watson. Not sure i even have anything to play a record on any more. Think i will add Johnny Horton to my list.

After that a lot of old time greats, love Blue Grass also.
Most of the the music they play today and classify as country is what we used to play as rock& roll, and where did they get Taylor Swift from and who had the nerve to put her down as country?

?? All of her songs sounds the same..... just my opinion.
But the Greatest was Hank. JMO

If you want to listen to some of the old stuff, go to www.tropiclaglen.com, pick a year and then click on the little dancing girl to go to country stuff. I keep this site on my favorites bar, so I can have good tunes any time I want.

What ever happened to Baillie and the Boys. If you want to hear some of their good ones, go to the site above, pick 1989, click on the little girl and then on the juke box find Baillie and the Boys, but be warned--once you listen, the song will be stuck in your mind. Try> Wish I had a Heart.

I really like the old Honky Tonk.
If it aint about momma, prison, cheatin, cryin, rain, pain, drinkin and love gone bad it just don't have my attention---the boys and gals from the 40's and 50's.One of my all time favorites was hank Thompson & the Brazos Valley Boys---course there is the king of all, Mr Bob Wills.

That is a good thought--seperated by race--just the same thing.
I can say that there were no bars when I grew up--no clubs--everything was dry ceptin for those old joints out in the woods. Apple Srings, Cut-N-Shoot, splendora, Conroe, Groveton then, if you wanted, there was louisiana.
Anyway, it was not a cultured enviroment, rowdy and profain.
The music of the times was much like that--not moral--in a sense--but certainly down to earth and out of touch with culture, pure working man music and thought. It had no intouch with antrhing cultured.
I remember Hank Snows "I've Been Everywhere"--nothing in that song that was intouch with a settled and urban population.

The 1st video Zac Brown, he reminds me alot of Dan Seals. Nice voice. Great video.

I've gotten away from most of the modern country over the past few years. Still enjoy the older stuff. Johnny Cash, Faron Young, George Jones, Statler Bros, Johnny Horton, Ray Price, the old Willie Nelson & etc.

My wife bought me a CD converter for Christmas. So I can record all my old records to CD's. And I have alot of them. So I'll be busy for some time.

The problem (for me) of much that passes for country (and pop) music today is the monotony - the same sound over and over. There is little melody; many of the "artists" can't really sing. Maybe they are in it because of their looks?

I am very familiarly with Rob Williams, he is the son of country great Leona Williams. His background in well founded, his mother, and the third wife of Merle Haggard is a great artist herself, and known for writing Merle’s songs “The Way I am,” The Roots of My Raising,” and “Big City.

My wife and I are regular visitors to the Circle L Arena in Hamilton, TX where Rob is a regular along with Justin Trevino, Bobby Flores, Darrel McCall , Jake Hooker and Heather Myles just to name a few. As a youngster I worked at the Lousiana Hayride (57-58) as a part-time stage hand. We re-aranged the stage between acts, I met a lot of the big names while working there.

There are several other greats here in Texas that have written and played with many of the big time stars. Curtis Potter, Jody Nix and Johnny Bush come to mind since they are locals. We are only skimming the surface of “new” greats; there are many more that I didn’t mention.

Looking at the names on posted here how can we forget?

Thats a mighty powerful list. I have always been around where singing and pickin were going on. Dad was a better than average singer and used the old Grandmother's Harp/ Shape Notes to learn new songs from the church hymnal, mom also had a good voice, so we always sang.
WSM was a big treat for us to WATCH on the radio, man you could just visulize those Opera stars performing. A neighbor down the street had a TV and would holler for us to come and watch Cousin Wilber and Blondie from Augusta Ga. because some of our cousins played for them, Ray went on to play with J&J and Kitty for a time, always a treat for us to see them on TV.
The family talent for music must have ran out before it got to me. I love to play but just for my own entertainment now, haven't played on stage in a long time. You don't have to be a good musician to play in a band, but you do need to be pretty good at it to make a living at it.
Also, Did I say? I LOVE MUSIC TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Old style R&R, Country, Blue Grass,Southern Gospel, Old Hymns,R&B's,Honky Tonk some Western Swing, and some Long-Haired music as well.
I also LOVE Gibson Guitars.

Zookiezoom. That's the place..........look close, you might see me scooting a boot across the floor.

I wish I still could, lung cancer has limited my dancing, as well as many other activities, but we still enjoy listening to the music when we go.

Another place for good country music is "Midwest Country," also on RFDTV. THe wife and I set out to visit Sanstone, MN were it is taped several years ago. GOt to Lincoln, NE and had an accident with my trailer, since the weather was forecast to be bad in the area we turned west and went to Rapid City, SD and spent a couple of weeks there. If I get a good report from the PET Scan I had yesterday we might try another trip to MN this Spring..........

There ain't no better fun than boot scooting, belly rubbing and sipping COLD Lone Star Beer while listen to twin fiddels play..............

David Allen Coe is an interesting fellow.

He got his name " Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy"by signing autographs outside the Grand old opry. He was never invited to play there but would run around getting hot and sweaty then stand out side when it was over and sign autographs. People would ask who was the Rhinestone Cowboy we don't remember seeing him on stage.

Rockbilly, good luck with the scan. Nowhere close by here to do any two stepping and listening to good old time country. I used to go to a place in Stateline Idaho called "Kelly's" that had a really good house band. Saw Ricky Van Shelton there once.
