I just bought an Encore frame and I'm trying to decide on the best caliber for hunting Alaska. I like the data on the 350 Rem Mag, but what would be another good choice for all game under 100 yds? BTW I use a 700vs in 308 for 100+ yds, and I'm not interested in shooting 'Large' game at that range with any rifle. Get 'em in close for me, I want the excitement.

You picked the best caliber right off the bat....The .350 Rem Mag is the ticket.

I couldn't wait any longer. I just got off the phone with Fred at Bullberry, 350 Rem Mag 23.5" Heavy Varmint.

I'm with ck on this one. Although there are different strokes for different folks the 45-70 is a very versatile cal. at distances of 100yrds + and is very capable of taking down the largest game North America has to offer. There are a wide range of loads and bullet weights to chose from and nothing says nostalgia like the 45-70 in Alaska.

Anyone try the 450 yet? I saw a Marlin guide gun in that caliber at my dealer's yesterday.. Darn thing looked good, real good.

I looked at the barrel and I would not want to be the guy that fires that thing without ear protection. Short barrel and a muzzle break would be too loud I would think.
