Huntsman drops out, endorses Romney.
« on: January 15, 2012, 04:49:29 PM »
Huntsman to quit Republican presidential race MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (Reuters) - Republican presidential hopeful Jon Huntsman will drop out of the White House race on Monday and endorse former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, a senior Huntsman campaign official said on Sunday. The official said Huntsman, a former Utah governor, was "proud of the race he ran." Ultimately, he "didn't want to stand in the way of the person with the best chance to beat President (Barack) Obama," the official told Reuters. Huntsman has been lagging in opinion polls and finished third in last week's New Hampshire primary

I respect him for making a run for it and I respect him for not threatening to be a spoiler.  In truth, he probably wouldn't have been able to be much of a spoiler, but good on him.

an obvious play to Romney for a future cabinet position.
Maybe Romney will make him Ambassador to China again if he wins.

Yeah,,,I was wrong about Hunstman....for a while there I thought he was the TPTB's choice thru the side door. Guess they didn't like the 'cut of his jib' for POTUS, but he's till relatively young....otre diaz for him.

Yep , that and the embarrassment of possibly coming in behind Steven Colbert  in the polls !!!!!

I was also trying to follow newts logic today.

Today Newt stated "Why do you want to vote for the Guy (Romney) who lost to the guy (McCain) who lost to Obama".

Hmmm.. lets take that one step further Newt.

Why would we want to vote for for the Guy (Newt) who is losing to the Guy (Romney) who lost to the guy (McCain) who lost to Obama".

and , even more infighting  -  in the latest revolving soap opera - As the Politics Turn

On Saturday, there was a large meeting of influential Evangelical leaders at the home of a prominent Texas couple. The implicit purpose of the meeting was to anoint a candidate that the group believed could derail the candidacy of former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney, who is not the choice of many Evangelicals. Now, several participants at the meeting in Texas are accusing others of fixing the ballot vote in favor of Santorum.

He has bigger goals/objectives than that..

my bet is he will be SECSTATE if Romney ends up in the White House..

TM7 is right.. he is still young.. he has at least one more POTUS run left in him.. SECSTATE would put him in the spotlight for a few years and make a POTUS attempt much more viable in the future (assuming he was successful as SECSTATE)..

Considering his stand on China that is exactly what you don't need as a Secretary of State big wimp as he is.

Yep, couldn't possibly be because he wanted to support the person he believes has the best chance of beating obama.    ::)

I can just imagine the accolades he would have gotten here if he threw his support behind RP.

Won't that be fun if it's Romney vs. Obama?

Romney doesn't need it anyway.  It will be him vs. Barry come November.

My personal issues with Mitt as Republican candidate -

1, “I want individuals to have their own insurance. That means the insurance company will have an incentive to keep you healthy. It also means that if you don’t like what they do, you can fire them. I like being able to fire people who provide services to me. You know, if someone doesn’t give me the good service I need, I want to say, ‘You know, I’m going to go get someone else to provide that service to me.’ “

Mitt your missing the point - it's not that we cant fire our Health INS companies we can do that now, it's the fact they can fire us and do!!!.

2. "'There were a couple of times when I wondered whether I was going to get a pink slip".

Mitt your missing the point  - There is a big difference in receiving a pink slip when your net worth is 50k or less a year , then when your net worth is 100 Billion or more.

3, "Corporations are people too"

Mitt your missing the point - No they are not. Citizens United is one of the worst rulings ever to be handed down from the Supreme Court. Corporations are entities not people and only beholding to specific people , their shareholders. Employees are a necessary overhead. If corporations can fully automate, reduce number of employees, reduce infrastructure, lower labor costs by off-shoring  -  they do. Thats not a jab, thats what corporations do.
Corportaions are entities that exist to make profits for their stakeholders. They are not people.

4. I'll bet you 10 thousand dollars.

Mitt your missed the point -
You don't understand how a bet like that is out of touch with the common man. To you 10k is a tip and a small wager. To the average middle class that's probably 1/4 of yearly income. No common man could wager that amount. I know it's a small thing and I may be knit-picking but no matter how hard you try , you just cannot understand the plight of the common man. That's not to say your a bad person, that's just to say you have been in the upper brackets for so long you have lost touch with the real America.

5. "I got a little bit of income from my book, but I gave that all away. Then, I get speakers fees from time to time, but not very much.”

You call 374k in speaking fees not very much. last year given the number of speaches you gave, that equated to 41k an hour , 374kk is 7 times more than most people made all year.  Again You are just out of touch with the common man. you cannot possible represent the vast majority of Americans because you are not cut from the same cloth.

6.“For the past 10 years, my income comes overwhelmingly from investments made in the past, rather than ordinary income or earned annual income." “It’s probably closer to the 15 percent rate than anything,”

Now we come to the crux of my issue with Mitt. I cannot trust Mitt with true tax reform. Mitt, I am sure everything you are doing is above board , but to only have to pay 15% because tax codes allow the most wealthy in our country lower tax rates with regards monies made off of investments etc, while that same tax code socks middle class workers with higher tax rates on monies actually earned from working is just wrong.

Under your proposed tax plan, taxes will increase on working poor and middle class while giving even more tax breaks to the most wealthy "Job creators? ??? "  than they have now.  The wealthy have had tax cuts for years. Where are the Jobs ? oh yeah offshore , and you want to provide them with even more tax breaks?.

- Give me a break. Ridiculous.

I would no sooner put the The fox in charge of watching the hen house.. I have seen this all play before and know how it ends -  RINO, Status Quo, corporate cronysim , and out of touch with the common man.
