Threading a .223 barrel?
« on: January 17, 2012, 12:42:50 PM »
Hi all, new guy here.

I've got a 1979-dated Contender with a 10" blued bull barrel in .223 Remington and was considering having it threaded to accept a sound suppressor.  Are there any reasons why I should not do this?

Thanks,
Eric

No reason not to do it.

However, be cautious, some suppressor manufacturers won't warranty use with barrels under 10-10 1/2". Check with what the manufacturer states on minimum barrel length.

Very cool.  I am waiting on my first suppressor to put on two contender 300 Blackout  MGM barrels, a 16.5" carbine and a 10" pistol barrel.  Both are threaded and ready to make poofing noises. :)

I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be ruining a barrel with any collector value.

Common barrel. Only 223 that has the greatest collector value is the 10" octagon version.
May want a thread protector made too.
