Hi All,

Did H&R/Remington raise their wholesale prices recently? I noticed on Bud's website and some other sites that prices on new Handis, Pardners, etc. seem to have jumped a bunch in the last couple of weeks. For example, Buds is asking $250+ for Tracker IIs and around $275 for 357/44 Mags on SB1s. Cheapest H&R scattergun at Bud's is pushing $140. Starting price at Buds on 22LR is close to $200 and the 45/410 is pushing $300.

Maybe it's time to price check elsewhere, CTD charges $10.99 shipping.

The prices seem to be in line, for example, Wally World here has all the standard shotguns in stock for 127.95, and the rifles are about 259 or so. I did notice that a lot of those guns were out of stock, no backorder. I also noticed that they had a picture of a Mossberg O/U in as an Ultra Slug Hunter, so maybe they are a bit unorganized. I do know that a 20-25% price hike brings my shopping to a screeching halt, regardless of what it is. There are a few things I still would cough up some cash for, but they get fewer every day.

I might have to get rid of some in order to do that too, which I really hope I dont have to do. We will have to see shortly.

I would not doubt it !!!

They sneeked one past me when I ordered my 357 barrel, the web site said $96.00 but I was charged $135.00 (40% higher), If you add in the shipping and the mandatory fitting fee my cost was just over $198.00. Could have bought another rifle for that amount, actually less. At the last gun show, 2 weeks ago, a 45/410 was $179.00 With survivor stock and store arm !

The price of everything keeps going up, if we don't buy at the price they demand they seem to stop making things instead of lowering the prices.

Ordered 357 from CTD about 1 month ago. Fast service, good price. I had not ordered a gun from them until this one but would do it again.

What barrel did you get from H&R? The reason I ask is that I just got back a 22" 357 mag barrel last week and they only charged $96 plus the taxes, fitting and shipping costs. I think I would be getting on the horn and raising a stink if it really was a mistake.

The 18¾" Trapper barrel has sights which adds to the cost, it's not listed on the H&R website.

The prices from our online canadian retailers--they won't ship to the U.S.A due to export laws

cheapest i have seen lately

basic pardner shotgun $ 119.00
basic pallet wood rifles $ 259.00
tracker II & ultralight slug hunter $ 189.00

Usually you guys down south can always get firearms alot cheaper than us especially when your rmajor retailers have sales which they insist upon e-mailing me . Some of your sale prices down there almost seem like their paying you to take the gun home

Yes it does, a cheap cast uni-ramp front and a nice rear that RETAILS at for $23.98 , and the 22inch barrel has a rail that retails for 12.00.
At the most a 15.00 price increase, HOWEVER barrels sold on the website have either sights OR rail without price change.

I would accept a reasonable reason , but not the inclusion of sights that are included on other barrels without charge for the additional $40.00

Are the Trapper barrels made from existing stock? I was wondering if the barrel taper is the same at 18.5" as the standard barrel at that point.

If they are a non-cataloged item made up from standard inventory, then $40 isn't too bad for the additional labor. Especially when considering the alignment and d&t for the front sight.

Talo Trapper barrels are 18¾" long, they have to drill and tap for the rear sight also, I know of no gunsmtihs that will drill and tap for free, I wouldn't expect H&R to do it also, ALL H&R rifle barrels are drilled and tapped for a scope base whether they have sights of not.

I spoke to a gentleman at Remington repair.
Here is the official answer from Remington repair .
They did not charge for the sights as they offer barrels with choice of sight (iron or rail) what they charged for was cut and crown of the barrel to 18.5 inches. The part number as posted on the forum does not denote custom cutting ! So according to the gentleman at Remington they make the barrel from a standard barrel and the part number is partly a designation of custom work.

As I had said before, the sights were not the price difference.

Someone should note that the barrel part number listed on the forum is not a standard off the shelf barrel and will be charged an additional $40.00 for the custom cut and crown. Total for the 357 mag 18.5 inch trapper barrel F403635 is without fitting or shipping $135.00 with fitting and shipping back to you the invoice is $185.01 Add your shipping to this and you are at $200.00
As I have said before, buy another rifle from an individual, gunshow or online for near the same money or less.

Remington does not tell you this, as they feel that if you have the part number you would be aware of the extra cost involved.

Based on the fact that I love single shots and the superior CS that you can get from INSIDE H-R (not Rems normal CS) I'll continue to buy H-R's even with the price increase.

$50 for an extra action and stock set sounds like a no brainer to me.

Just as I suspected, this is just more misinformation from Madison Customer Support, I confirmed this with Brian who is the real Remington Repair for H&R in Ilion, they don't custom cut barrels to length and they do not do any custom work, all of the Talo barrels are off the shelf barrels, and the price is $135 plus shipping, fitting and tax. And has been stated many times before, the price on accessory barrels does NOT include shipping, fitting fee or tax, which all increase the price of an accessory barrel substantially, but anyone that completes the order form should know that before they send it in.

Apparently they do, do custom work.
My invoice under description says :
"BRL 357 Rem Mag MACHINED 18.75 sight HO" (caps theirs not mine, yes I added the red)

With the placement of the word MACHINED. It is more likely that the gentleman that I spoke to in the repair department is correct.
If Brian is correct "they do not do any custom work," then the word MACHINED should never appear on an invoice.

I do not think that anyone has said they did not know about the shipping and fitting fees.

My point is that there was no price listed on the other thread that shows the barrel part number.
The price for this short barrel for some odd reason cost MORE then ANY center fire rifle barrel listed on their web site including stainless and bull.
someone said it was because my barrel has iron sights, yet you get iron sights on other listed barrels for the same price as rail.
Another point is that another member mentioned his trapper fitted a month after mine was only $166.00 including shipping and fitting which would put the cost of his trapper barrel at 166-19-25= $122.00 which is still high but would be more in-line with the website pricing.
Now the just mentioned barrel was 44 and mine was 357, however it appears from the website that caliber does not effect the price but stainless or bull does.

I DID NOT ASK THE PRICE BEFORE ORDERING. That was my mistake and why I did not complain to H&R. However all things considered I will vent about not being warned of a 40% higher price for no good reason !

You'll find any of the barrels with sights cost more than the slick barrels, Gardner charged $47 to add sights to barrels that didn't come with them, for anyone to expect the same price for a barrel with sights over a barrel with just an $11 scope rail is ridiculous.

I added it today since I confirmed it with Brian, had you asked, you would have known up front, vent all ya want.

Since you're new here, you don't know about Madison Customer Support, they give out bad info all the time, you could call three times and get three different answers, do a search on it, I don't think you talked to anyone in the actual repair department in Ilion, but rather someone in Madison who handles the return authorizations, there's no way to contact Ilion repair that I'm aware of. This has been going on since Remington bought H&R/Marlin in 2008, they're more familiar with Remington products and that's where the "custom cut" info is likely coming from because they do have a custom shop for Remington products. Madison also does the invoicing, so if you have a problem with what they charged, you'd have to contact them about it, they have overcharged before, the only way they know about it is if you challenge it.

I went back and looked at my invoice for my 44 mag trapper. It was 96.00 for the barrel, 25.00 for fitting, 19.00 for shipping and handing, 4.86 tax, and it cost me about 17.00 to ship it to them. So it was a little over 160.00. Maybe there's a high demand for 357 and they charge more.

For what it's worth, I quit ordering the accessory barrels because of the crappy CS. For one, $160 is not really that cheap when a person thinks about it, but in any case, they seem to have some kind of attitude that is OK to give out false info and almost treat a person like it's a burden to sell their product to a person. I know that's just my opinion, but I figure I'll just be happy with the assortment of barrels and rifles from them I have. To the original poster, I would also be ticked off, especially if they lied about custom work. If the web site says $96 bucks, then that's what it should be. There isn't any of us that would fill up our tanks @ $3.25 gallon, only to find out that the cost they are charging is $3.75, after you filled the tank.
