I saw that on their site the other day.  It has got to be the most butt ugly gun I have ever seen.  Being a levergun guy it feels like sacrilege.  If I want a "tactical" levergun Ill paint the stock and forearm black and put one of those neoprene ten round things on the stock.

Yech.... lever-rifle blasphemy!

A nicely camo'd synthetic stock on a 336 I could abide... but not that black travesty pictured.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Too over the top for me.
But I have seen some nice standard synthetic stocked, optional sighted, scout scoped, flashlight attached Marlins that I could live with. Still wouldn't be my first choice though.

My 12 year old son was admiring a model 94 in a local shop before Christmas. He wants it bad, but Christmas had already been bought. Anyways, after Christmas was over he's counting up his money before bed and he tells me that he is going to save it up and buy a 30-30 lever gun before next hunting season. Which I thought was very cool and it made me proud. Then he proceeds to tell me that how he's going to transform it into a tactical model?  :o  I thought that was the craziest thing I had ever heard and just shook my head. And this is not a one time brain fart. He keeps talking about this "tactical" 30-30 he is going to build. Now low and behold, Mossberg has someone on their board that thinks like my twelve year old!  ;D  You never know, they obviously will appeal to some, but I can't imagine them selling many.....

I honestly thought this was a joke.

   Guess not.

And yet, some fool, some where, is drooling over it as we speak.

Maybe, just maybe, Guns & Ammo, or some other gun mag, will be forced by this monstrosity to print an honest review, and say it is total crp.

You're being charitable, but there's always that possibility. Its priced higher than their barebones version though, so I don't see entry level buyers going for it. Frankly the forend looks very uncomfortable, and with the stock in the collapsed position, you'd have a heck of time cycling the action without taking it off your shoulder. Not all that is new is better, and not all that old is classic.

Over the years Mossberg has made some outstanding guns.  They have put good, practical field and woods guns out for generations.  The last few years they have just come out with one stupid video game inspired piece of garbage after another.  The chainsaw gripped shotgun.  The 50BMG muzzle breaks on everything from shotguns to 22s.  Now this.  What the heck are they thinking?

Honestly, I could see a folding stock lever gun.  Maybe.  Something that makes a handy little game rifle more packable would be sensable if it looked right.  You wouldn't even have to be able to shoot it readily from the closed position because it would be for transport.  Even a QD detachable stock like the IMI Timberwolf had would be a cool inovation for the Joe Average of hunting rifles that is the 30-30 lever gun.  But this?  This is what happens when 'marketing experts' start to run a company into the ground.

There is no telling what the public at large will take a liking to. Maybe Mossberg is trying to come up with another Taurus Judge. With some of the stuff that is out there on the market, it wouldn't suprise me if this lever gun took off in sales. Who knows!

A very good point, but this gun is not for me. I can see a youngster wanting to shoot this often and enjoy some quality range time. The stock is adjustable to fit all. The 30-30 round could be downloaded to near zero recoil.

Several years ago I wrote and submitted an article to a couple magazines on the tactical abilities of a good leveraction rifle chambered for 30-30.  In that article I recommended a synthetic stock, with a scout type scope mount and a small light mounted just forward of the forearm stock piece attached to the magazine tube.  I also recommended adjustment of the butt stock with the use of wedges, and spacers.

The gun itself would be fabulous in a home defense situation, with an 18" barrel and a few tweaks.  What is pictured there is so far from what I had in mind, and what I envisioned...

That thing is just too far out in left field to be a seller to any of the lever action group, and is just not what the tactical crowd is looking for either

Actually I ought to buy a couple three of these babys. Keep them in the box unfired. Someday my bet is that they will be very very rare.

As experienced shooters, hunters and lever guys, we should consider writing a group letter to Mossberg, telling them exactly how ridiculous and desperate this product makes them look, and how this type of trash should be an embarrassment to the company.

I predict annual sales of approximately 14 units.
