Why cant the NRA offer a magazineless membership option?
« on: January 21, 2012, 06:47:58 AM »
5 minutes ago my new issue of American Hunter was in the mail box. Now its in the fireplace. This is the usual routine unless its summer at which time it goes right into the trash bin. What a waste of paper. I really wish the NRA would offer a magazineless membership option. I find their publications to be only slightly more worthwhile to read than an issue of Newsweek.

They do have one for paperless issues. Go to the NRA web page and sign up for the digital edition. You get an e-mail when a new issue is available and you can read it on line or download it as a PDF file.

Thanks. I didnt know they did that. I will have to check into it. There are magazines that I save and read over and over like Backwoodsman, Fur-Fish-Game, but the NRA magazines hold little to no interest for me. Its either guns I have no interest in or could never afford or hunting in settings I could never afford.

Rifleman always had more interesting info to me. At one time you could change from one mag to the other. If you arn't a long time subscriber, when your membership runs out just start makeing a small donation each year. ear

I'm sure they get a lot of income from the advertisers in those mags. So the more members they send it to the better it looks to companies.

I received a call from them on friday requesting an early renewal, by a real pushy woman. My membership doesn't run out till August. After politely telling her no thanks, she kept on offering shorter terms so I had to hang up on her.
She should know enough not to push 76 year old hermits.

I could care less if they offered a magazine or not . I've been a life member since 1979 and always consider the dues as nothing more than a donation .
I'll donate several times a year when finances allow.

There's no valid reason why there couldnt be 80 million members instead of 4 mill.
IMO.

For what it's worth. I believe you can request to not have any of the mailings. I did and they haven't sent me anything but the magazine.

I didnt say that what they do is a waste. All I said was that I dont like their magazines and I wish I could opt out of getting them. If I could opt out and get a $5 dollar discount on member dues I would be happy.

I joined the NRA in the 60's and have let my membership expire a couple of times and then rejoin. I have not let it lapse in over 20 years because I feel that without it the tree hugging liberals would have already disarmed us.
I do not like the phone calls and I don't need the paper trash, but we do need the NRA. I spend more than the membership fee on any given trip to a resturant, almost that much at a Burger place now .  JMO

How can some gun owners attack the NRA over any thing. They totaly ignore the positive things that have been done over the last 130 years.  I can not believe that anyone would whine over $5.00 going to the NRA.. ::)

I guess there is just no pleasing some gunowners because they constantly attack other gunowners about "whining" I have a use for the NRA. I dont have a use for their magazine. If the moderaters would lock this thread I would appreciate it. I started it as a suggestion that it would be nice to have a magazineless membership option. I didnt start this to provide a venue for bitter people to attack non NRA members or to vilify "whining" NRA members. I am currently an NRA member and always will be one. I simply have no use for their monthly publications. If some gunowners have a problem with that its just too bad.

That is OK. Before blaming the NRA why didn't you just switch to the on line publications and then each month just hit the "Delete"  button.  I don't buy your argument. It was an attempt at starting another "Whats wrong with the NRA" thread. ::)

Why not before attacking us just check the NRA options for on line publications? Many of us spread the word by donateing our American Rifleman to barber shops, VA Hospt. and other public venues.  :)

Please point out where I said "what is wrong with the NRA?". How am I attacking "us"?  I dont like the magazines. I have cycled through all of the options in my  10 YEARS of uninterupted membership. I didnt know there was an online option and I will switch. I dont like the magazines and I have a right not to like them without being called anti NRA so just get over it.
