"I have strong feelings about gun control. If there is a gun around I want to be controlling it."  - Clint Eastwood

That can be taken in two entirely different ways.  It almost sounds like the one, "Gun control means hitting your target".

To be honest with you, if you read between the lines of that saying that Clint supposedly said to Gene Hackman, I don't see all that much wrong with it.  I am for guns but I am completely against the way Hollywood portrays them and I think that Hollywood, not guns themselves, has something, if not everything to do with gun violence and violence in general within our cities.  I also think that Hollywood is the reason why there are so many anti-gunners out there.  How many times have you seen a six shooter in a western shoot 10 or 12 rounds?....all from a gun where these shooters traditionally only carried five live rounds in their revolver.  How many times have you seen a 30 round magazine fire 100 or more rounds and then from out of nowhere the actor pulls another magazine and shoots another 100 rounds from a 20 or 30 round magazine.  It's no wonder why people hate guns.  They watch too much TV!

Additionally, most Hollywood movies like to portray a victim that has just been shot with glory as they say their last dieing words to a friend or a loved one.  They make them some kind of hero or something.  I think not!  If Hollywood showed the real way it looks when someone is shot, I don't think anyone would find anything attractive about it, with the exception of a few very socially sick individuals.
I'm sure most of you here have seen an animal shot in the head and how they bounce around for a few minutes with blood spurting in every direction.  If that was portrayed as it is for real, I don't think too many people would find any glory in shooting scenes.  I don't even think they'd be allowed on TV.

Ugg...sorry, didn't mean to go on and on like that but I think you know what I'm trying to say.

aaaahhhh frustrations... Wife wanted to watch one of the dozens of tv crime scene investigator shows last evening.  I wanted to watch The Outlaw Josey Wales.  She said "We've seen that 20 times and you can say most of the lines in the movie".  I said "But you know know how CSI will end... every time".  Ended up switching during commercials.  So JW is probably my number two or number three western right after Unforgiven and Pale Rider but not necessarily in that order on any given day!

Well, Mr. Carpetbagger. We got somethin' in this territory called the Missouri boat ride.

Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?

Dyin' ain't much of a living, boy.

That's true. I ain't promising you nothing extra. I'm just giving you life and you're giving me life. And I'm saying that men can live together without butchering one another.

Ten Bears
It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life.

These are not rumors. The Hackman article was in all the news media years ago. This came about as Eastwood and Hackman were supporters of Sarah Bradys Hand Gun control. Dear Sarah had ask them not to make movies that glorify guns. Hackman and Eastwood were using their megamillion dollar income to fund the Left Wing movements such as gun control. This Pro Obama actor is Damn sure no friend of American gun owners. He claims his "Gun" movies show the violence caused by handguns. ::)

And what does any of this have to do with a big tub of buttered popcorn and a great late night Eastwood western? .

Oh BTW.... I ended up watching Unforgiven that night but have to admit it was a tough choice.

Eastwood is a left wing life long antigun Hollywood actor. I would not as a gun owner watch any of his work. ???

This is hard to believe about a guy who was; at one time, considered for the Republican VP.

To answer the original question, I'd go with Pale Rider. Ya gotta love the beat down with the axe handle.

Why does everything need to revert to politics? Because I happen to enjoy a late night western, and Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns  (which is what this post was originally about). somehow that makes me against 2nd amendment rights?  Someone always has to take a lighthearted thread and make it less than fun for everyone else.

you need to Get a Life!!!  If you cant stay on topic ..Go troll elsewhere.

Lots of folks making movies against guns. Hypocritical? I suppose in some ways yes, but then these folks make their living playing dress up.

Either way, it's entertainment and it entertains me. As long as I don't have to eat supper with some of them........ Even CE states that TOJWales is in a sense an anti war movie, much like All Quiet on the Western Front was.

But, back to the title of the OP, hard choice, they're both good in their own right. I like the newer westerns better because not everybody carries Colt's and Winchester's like so many TV shows from the 50's and 60's although Rawhide had its share of Marlins.

Deadwood? good series barring the use of punctuating language.

Clints movies, to me anyway, taught the importance of being armed and knowing how to use them. I have Josey Wales in vhs and watch it every so often. I'd sure like to have that sharps he used. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D
