HELP .223 twist rate info needed
« on: January 22, 2012, 07:28:16 AM »
I have a line on a "new in box" combo in .223, with scope, package.

The seller has NO IDEA about the twist rate but he is going to forward the Serial number.

Anyone know when the swap to 9" twist barrels was?  What year?   What about the twist rate on the Dicks Sports combo's that were recently on sale CHEAP?

Thanks

Anything made 2007 and later will be 1:9", between 2004 and 2007, can be either 1:12" or 1:9", most, if not all extractor and fluted barrels are 1:9", but no guarantees, best way to find out is with a rod per the the FAQs twist rate info, H&R doesn't even know by serial number.

It is in the FAQ!  All since 2007 are 1:9.  ;)

HMMMMM.

It is a 1-12 twist, but it is a CBA 061XXX serial number.  The CBA number means a 2008 birthday per the FAQ  soooooooo...........The twist rate FAQ must be in error.

I am guessing this is one of the Dicks guns, and they may have done a production run that used the remaining 12 twist barrels.    Anyone else with one of these specials know their twist?

I cut and pasted the instructions from the FAQ and sent it to the seller.  He reports doing it 3 times, each coming out at 12 twist.

Or someone swapped an old barrel onto that frame.  ;)

+1 on that, even H&R has been known to replace a barrel with an older model barrel, someone here once got an ejector barrel back as a replacement on a repair, this was long after H&R quit using ejectors on centerfire rifles!  ;)

I doubt the owner swapped.  This is unfired in the box complete with the 4-12 scope and funky rings that were part of the Dick's combo's.  I will pick it up Tuesday and check serial numbers.

Now I need ANOTHER camp laminate stock.....  Or maybe I can pry one of those yellow and grey ones out of someones safe ;) ....  This has Camo Synthetic's on it now.  CW you readin' this?
