« on: January 22, 2012, 01:44:58 PM »
Thinking about picking one upin  223 and curious if it can be rebarreled to another caliber?
If so where can i find barrels ,how hard is it to do and bout how much?

Thanks Craig

If the Edge uses the same action as the other Savages and the Steven 200  ( Savage 110) which I believe they do, then it isn't a problem at all.

I suspect that they can.....but....the cost of new barrel will equal the cost of a new gun.  Look into ER Shaw, work the numbers and I'd bet you can get another EDGE for the same or lesser price.

Don't forget a new bolt head if the case head size is different.   Thats why I stick to the std. 243, 260, 308, 270, 30-06 and the 6.5x55 fits too.

The Savage Edge looks to me like the standard 110 action except it has a knoch mill into the frount of the action. The knoch is there because there is no recoil lug on the barrel and they have it molded into the stock. As for rebarreling it would be the same as any other savage action, but if you want to change stock you would have to put a recoil lug on the barrel. I bought on in 22-250 at a gun show awhile back and about fell over when I saw their recoil system, but the rifle is a tack driver so I guess it works. Also if you rebarrel to a round with a different case head you would have to change the bolt face on the bolt, but that is not hard to do eather.
