Weihrauch/Beeman HW70
« on: January 20, 2004, 06:04:51 AM »
Hello

I am curious about the HW70. I have read some limited stuff on it over at the yellow forum but was wondering if any owners or anybody else had any comments on it, good or bad. Is it hold sensitive? Accurate?

How is the build quality? I know it is a HW but I read that it is all cast metal and the grip is plastic.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Ivan:

The following is the unexaggerated truth about my HW70 and why I recommend that you avoid it.

Mine was so bad that I eventually gave up on it and threw it in the garbage-- only a little over a year after I bought it.  The fact that the screws kept loosening and falling out while shooting was an irritation that was eventually solved by using Loc-Tite.  The trigger was the most inconsistent I have ever used. I never knew from shot to shot what the trigger pull would be like. It was sometimes light, other times heavy, sometimes creepy, but never smooth like a good trigger.  The sight readjusted itself while shooting and occasionally loosened when the pin that holds it on slipped out.  After a few thousand shots the point of impact started to drift to the left and after a while it could not be corrected. At that point I got rid of it.

The replacement is a P1, made by the same manufacturer, but of exceptionally good quality. It's hard to believe they are made by the same company.

The only good thing I can say about the HW70 is that it taught me to appreciate how lucky I am to have a good gun now.

Actually the hw70 or Beeman P2 as it is beter known was a P1

(HW45) predasesor and is a single pump pneumatric powerplant. The P1(HW45) eventually went finually a spring meckanisn but for some reason the P2(HW70) was kept in the line. Why I don't really know it servers no real purpose. It costs as much sometimes more than the P1 but with far less power and not quite the accuracy. The gun however is manufactured of he same materials as the P1. It looks almost identical with the major difference was the pneumatic powerplant.
You would be better off buying either the Beeman P3 of the P1 other wise known as the HW40 and the HW45 these guns are of much better use in power and accuracy than the HW70. The HW45 has the power and accuracy and the HW40 has the target accuracy and the fully adjustable trigger as well as a price everybody could afford costing half of what a HW45 or HW70 would cost.  Don't bother with the HW70 its a gun without use and the HW40 is a much better target gun.

Thanks for the post but you are confusing the HW70 with the HW75, or Beeman P2. I'm talking about the older style barrel-cocking springer, not the SSP version of the HW45.

The HW-70S IS an HW-70S.  It is a lethargic break-barrel spring pistol.  The HW-75 is the same as a Beeman P-2, a single stroke pneumatic that LOOKS like a HW-45(Beeman P-1) which is a spring gun.  The HW-40 is the same as the P-3.

Never bought a HW-70S because my similar velocity P-3 is so dang good!
