Ruger Blackhawk trigger question
« on: January 23, 2012, 06:21:05 PM »
I just traded for a Ruger 45LC Blackhawk Bisley and although it shoots great I have a question about the trigger and hope someone on here and help me.

When the hammer is down and you go to cock it there is a small hang in it like the trigger or hammer is catching on something. If you pull the trigger back about 1/16 -3/32 inch there is small click and the hammer will cock smooth. Also with the hammer down the rear of the trigger sticks down out of the frame about 1/32 or so, enough to see where the corner is.

I have looked at pictures of them online and for the most part you can't see the rear of the trigger on them. Is this something that might get better after shooting it a while or do I need to readjust something?

Any ideas are appreciated. I'll try to et some pictures and post them if needed.

Is the Base Pin (cylinder pin) fully seated?

Does the Base Pin have a functioning, spring loaded plunger in one end?

i'm not sure as I haven't taken it apart yet. As far as I know the cylinder pin is in fully but will check it. Could the transfer bar be hitting or rubbing on it it it were to be a little too long?

Is this a used gun?  Maybe it has new or aftermarket parts in it.  ???  Maybe someone who didn't know what they were doing did a trigger job on it.  ???

YES, the transfer bar can catch on the firing pin and hang up if bent.  Either that or take a look down into the action where the transfer bar angles into the frame to the right.  It may be hanging up there.  Perhaps a good lube can take care of the problem.  ???
Really, without seeing it and cocking it, it's going to be difficult for anyone to really pinpoint the problem.  It's probably best to hand it over to a QUALIFIED gunsmith or someone who really knows Ruger single actions well.

If the trigger snaps foward a little when cocked, take the grips off and make sure the trigger return spring legs are on the posts in the frame. In fact id do that anyway just to check first.
