I want to get into the rimfire silhouette game just for fun and family.
I have the following options in .22s available to me (which I have been fortunate to acquire quite ecomomically):
1) TC Contender(old style) with a SS 21 inch tapered barrel and standard chamber. I plan on getting a stock with a high comb(not sure if thumbholes are legal though or not) and using a Burris 2x7 compact(no OA though) that was given to me quite cheap. The mount is a raised variety (the Weaver rail sits about about 1 inch above the barrel, thus the need for the high comb. OR... can I just go in with the old rynite carbine stock and the low Leupold mounts (also acquired dirt cheap)?
My question(s):Do I fit in or qualify for any particular class with either of these set ups? Again I do not have alot of $ for new upper end upgrades.
Also:
2) an old Mossberg 42mb with an S100 peep and original front sight that now, after having removed the forend piece and rendering into more of a "free float sporter", has given me 1 inch groups from a casual sitting position using bulk ammo. It's really a jewel in the rough that I believe might be capable of outstanding accuracy with the right "love". If this rifle is eligible, I would be willng to invest in a better front sight if one is available or even mount up a scope (any suggestions?) I have no idea what is legal or not as far as optics.
Same questions apply.
I have a couple other options but I'll save them for another time. Any info is deeply appreciated, Thanks.
