Help me choose a new scope.
« on: January 20, 2004, 06:43:52 AM »
This scope is going on my Ruger 22-250. This rifle is stricktly a coyote gun. These are the choices. Sightron S11 3x12 mildot, bushnell 3200 4x12. 4200 4x16, Weaver Grandslam, 4x16 or Burris 4.5x14 with ballistic plex.
I'm leaning towards the S11 because it is slightly more compact than the others.

 Thanks Matt

I'm sure the Sightron is a good scope but I use and prefer the 4200 Elite in 4x16x40 on a heavy weight varmint gun. It tracks perfect and holds POI well, managing to shoot under .250 and credit the scope with not holding back a very accurate rifle. The 4200 will be a little brighter than the Sightron, 3200 Elite or Burris and IMO the Grand Slam also though some may argue that fact as they're very close.

MH WASH,

CDNN investments has the 6x20x50 Redfield Illuminator series for $289.  High quality scope.  Picked one up for to put on my .22-250AI.  Do a little research, you'll find these are a great deal.

Of all the scopes that you mentioned, and I have used all of them, I strongly recommend the Elite 4200 4x-16x40mm.  Heck, I own 2 of them!  The Elite 4200s are by far my favorite scopes - regardless of price.

I have a Weaver Grandslam and really do like it.  I havent used any of the other scopes you mentioned, so I cant give you a comparison.  But I can tell you the Grandslam is a very good scope and I reccommend them.

For the money, the Grand Slams are good scopes.  My only complaints about them, primarily speaking, is that they have very short eye relief.  This, of course, shouldn't be a problem with a light recoiling 22-250.  On the other hand, the 4200 has better optics and has rain guard.  However, this too may not be all that important to your needs.

I have used the Weaver V-16, Bushnell 4200 4-16, and the Sightron 4-16 and prefer the V-16 and Bushnell 4200 4-16 over the Sightron.  The Sightron has screwy(pun intended) objective bell that rotates 720 degrees and can be hard to read the yardages.  The V-16 is the best buy even if you buy a sunshade to go with it.  All three are good scopes optically with the 4200 probably a little better.
