NEF Sportster 17HM2

Going to a gun store is like going to the animal shelter. Some things just follow you home. Case in point a NEF Sportster in 17HM2. Going on a tree rat hunt Sat. so I will be testing it out.

If that is a .17 Mach2 you made a great grab. They are not made anymore and are unbelieveably accurate. Try some 20 grain solids for the squirrels, they are less destructive than the faster and lighter 17 grain bullets and put down smaller varmints with AUTHORITY....<><....:)

"Unbelievably accurate" is an understatement. I don't know who supplied the barrels for NEF 17's but they're super accurate.

Took the 17hm2 out today. Went to take a couple of practice shots and no bang, no dented primer no nothing. It was to cold and windy to look at it at 8:00 this morning so I took the NEF 20 gauge out. When I got home I compared the 2 actions as you pulled back the hammer. The transfer bar on the 17hm2 is not raising when you pull back the hammer like it does with the 20. Called the shop that sold it to me and he said to bring it in and they will fix it. Disappointed I did not get to try it out.

I agree, I have owned many rimfires and some where quite expensive and from known respected quality makers... I have worked in the industry with the ability to shoot many new firearms thru the years... This little 130$ 17M2 is head and shoulders the most accurate!! Its one of my favorites!

My worries are that its not long for production... I know the H&R version is gone. I think Ruger is still offering it in the single six and Savage in tere rifle line, but not sure...

I make it a habit of buying two boxes everytime I am in a store that sells the ammo... I don't wanna run out!!

Stopped by the gunstore that is repairing my 17hn2 sportster and was told waiting on parts. Is NEF slow on parts?

NEf is defunct. It's all H&R nowdo you know what parts are needed?

Brownells carries quite a few as does Numrich arms.

That's about the same price the 17hmr is in the US, please note the drop down menu as the 17M2 is out of production and has been for several years and is not available.  :(

I have a 17HM2 that I was about to sell.  I could not get the thing to group accurately.  I tried every trick in the FAQ but nothing worked.  I thought the scope might be the problem so I pulled the scope off.  Surprise, surprise...the scope rail was loose.  I'm sure it was my fault.  Now, it gives me dime groups.  So start with the things that you can control..................scope rails and rings!!!

I just messed up and had to stop at my favorite gun store. When the lady told me I could have that brand new .17 mkII for $180 I felt like it would be irresponsible to just leave it there.

I remember a while back seeing these pop up everywhere and thought about getting one. Then I joined this site and found they were discontinued and thought dang, should have bought one when I had the chance. Guess I got a lucky second chance today. Cant wait to try it out.

Got my hm2 back from the repair shop after a very long wait. It was the firing pin and hammer block. Hope to get to the range in the next week to see what it will do. I hope it was worth the wait.
