Um, what did you use for a breach plug?  ???  Not that I really care... just curious... I just happened to stumble on a few web sites that sell in-line breach plugs and I didn't realise there were so many types out there.   ::)
 
gotta go check the Handi classifieds... seeyabye!   ;D

   Let me be the first to tell you.  DO NOT BUY ONE.  ........BUY TWO. ;D   One for 405 gr. lead bullets and one for 300 gr jacketed bullets. As stated these are a part of history. If I had to give up all my Handies except one, the keeper  would definitely be the 45 70. Stop messing around and go get it before Obama gets it.

Anyone considering an SMI barrel should research them here in the Huntsman/Sidekick forum, Busta would be the first person I'd recommend to ask personally, he wasn't impressed with his .50 cal.  :-\

"Just because! is reason enough but---I went to a 45/70 Handi a few years ago for deer hunting.  I've used them all: slug guns, bolt actions, Contenders, etc.  Then went to muzzle loading and got tired of having to take along everything but the kitchen sink every time I went out.  So, decided to "simplify," got the Handi 45/70 and have never looked back.  Put a few cartridges in my pocket, grab a knife and set out for an enjoyable and simple day.  And it works----especially good for woods hunting deer.

Just got my 45-70 barrel back from SMI. Had them install the breech plug of there design with a replaceable liner. First one I've had them due. Looks to be a nice job. Figure I'll have way less than what a bare Savage costs even after buying scope, mt, and hammer ex. Weather permitting next week will see how it shoots.
