I have a Remington 700 BDL 223 Rem. with a Leupold VX-II 4-12x40mm AO Scope.

I'm just curious to see what power scopes you guys and gals are using on your 223 Rem. (or similar cartridge) target or varmint rifles?

Thanks, NYH1. ;)

I have a Winchester M70 (new model) in .223 calibre. The glass on it is a Swift variable 4.5-12 power.

On my AR I like a 3 x 9 Leupold or a 3 1/2 x 10, nothing more as I`m am always shooting at running coyotes. My long range guns, a 224 TTH and acouple of 6-284`s, wear eather a 6 x 20 or an 8 1/2 x 25 Leupold.

3-9x40 Bushnell.  Any more powerful, and it fools me into thinking I can actually shoot that far.  My 22-250 wears a 4-12x scope.  I have a better chance of hitting long range targets with it.

Depends on the use and firearm for me.   Last three 223's I had that were all sold last year (just a fluke they were all Remy's considering how many 223's I've owned)...

Tricked out Remy 700VS wearing a Leupold 6.5-20X50mm LR Target... used for long range varmint hunting.

Custom Remy XP-100 wearing a Burris 10X Target... also used for long range varmint hunting.

Stock Remy 78 Sportsman wearing an old Weaver 3-9... used as a truck gun for both predator and varmint control when scouting properties for landowners.

I have two .223s.  A H&R Ultra with a 3X12X40 Cabela's Tactical scope.  The other is a T/C TCR, it has a Nikon 3X12X42. With BDC.

I have a 4x12 on my rifle but I have it set on 6x and it almost always stays there because if I concentrate I can often see the bullet impact at that magnification. Anything more and the field of view is so small that recoil throws the picture off too far to watch the bullet hit.

I am seriously considering putting the fixed 6X scope back on the rifle. It was the original one it wore. The big zoom scope just adds bulk and weight.

My two guns are mainly setup to hunt groundhogs, my 722/222 has an old Bushnell 10X and my 243 has a 4x12 Leupold.  Works for me,

I have liked the very scope you have for many years. One of my 223's wears one now, another has a fixed 6x.

Most all of my shooting is at prairie dogs. My Howa 223 Rem 1500 Varmint rifle has a 6-18 X AO scope on it as does my Browning Varmint  223 Rem rifle.  My 220 Swift and 243 Win varmint rifles  which I had befor I got the 223 Rem rifles has Leupold 6.5-20 X AO scopes on them.  Because the limited feild of view  at 20 X I would set the 6.5 -20 X scope down to 16 or 18 X power. When there were a lot of heat waves the scope was set even lower.

VX-l  2-7 on a Winchester Model 70 in .223  with  20" barrel. It's a nice compact walkin' around rifle  and  the smaller scope seems a perfect match.
