Mitt Romney....
« on: January 25, 2012, 05:39:12 PM »
Do you think Mitt Romney's religion would keep you from voting for him?  The reason why I ask is that many of you say that you are devote Christians and was wondering if Romney's LDS credentials would stop you from voting for him?  For those of you not familiar with the Later Day Saints, they call themselves Christians, but the Christians seem to all disagree with that.

Thanks,
Jim

If it makes any sense to vote by the time Wyo gets to participate in the primaries Romney won't be my first choice, but it won't be because of his religion, he is the most liberal of all the candidates. In the general election I will vote for whomever the GOP nominee is, even Ron Paul

His religion doesn't bother me at all but I have serious problems with his political beliefs. I really don't want him for president but I'm in ABO (anyone but Obama) mode for this coming election as I was the last one. It won't do any good which way I vote. My state's electorial votes will go to the democrats.

I'm with Bilmac. last time around they had our caucuses clear up in January. McCain and Paul were both eliminated in the first round of votes, got down to a pretty tense showdown between Thompson and Romney. Thompson won our county after we stood the establishment on their ears, then later dropped out and so that left Romney with a win here in Wy. So there's no point in us getting really wound up on anybody , because we don't get any say so until super Tuesday in March. They might all be in and there may be just one by then...
I have to laugh when I hear and read all this bs about Romney's religion. Mormons aren't quite the way they've been portrayed by uninformed religous bigots.
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

One thing impresses me about Romney, his charatible giving. Everybody is making a big deal about him only paying around 14 % taxes, but he gave a huge amount to his Church. This is the way the country is supposed to work. Churches and other private organizations take care of the poor, they have the local sense of need unlike bureacrats in DC. All of the Republican candidates were big charaty givers unlike the dems who are real scrouges in comparison.

Yeh the Mormons do pay a pretty high tithing.
14% is a pretty good return to the Government on money that had already been taxed at least once.

I think the 14% is a big deal myself...especially when he stumps about the poor not paying any taxes while paying a lower precentage than I do!  Sure, giving to the church is nice, but it is something he HAS to do in order reach a higher level heaven in his belief.

As a Christian myself, Mitt being a Mormon is a non issue. The fact that he's a gun grabbing, big government Socialist who set the tone for Obamacare is the issue with me and the reason I'd never vote for him under any circumstance.

Not really...Romney is HISPANIC! ;D   Yup, his Dad was born in Mexico...  Great-grandfather went to Mexico when Utah outlawed polygamy. ;)

I can't understand the gripes about his taxes, he does not set the tax code.  He pays what the IRS says he owes.  We all do that.

Religion, that's never been any of my concern as long as he did not bring it to work, or try and push it off on me.  My wife says she will not vote for him due to him being LDS, She feels it's a cult.  Funny, my mother feels the same way about my wife's religion, my wife is a Catholic.

As for the Gun Control, and abortion issues.  Romney says he has changed his feelings about those.  And for the ones that don't believe someone can change, remember Ronald Reagan was once a Democrat, he changed.

We've had Catholic presidents.  I see that as about the same as a Mormon president.  I'll vote for Mitt in November.

that's pretty bad alright.  about on a par with saying that iran has peaceable intentions toward us, when all the security agencies say they are planning attacks on our soil.

Not just planning attacks they are carrying them out. This is a very different kind of war we're in. The enemy isn't a country per say it is a belief system. An American citizen who believes and plans the blow us up is the same enemy as the imams in Iran. But we are being incredibly stupid in allowing an obvious move by our enemy to develop the most powerful weapon in the world.

There someone goes bringing up ancient history!  Another person that feels no one can ever change.  Bet they have never changed their minds or views about anything ever, in their whole lives.

Yes he said that, no one denies it.  He said that a long time ago, when he was governor.  But he has since changed his mind.  Today he says he now believes the second amendment is good for the country, and that we have enough gun control laws on the books, we just need to start enforcing them.

I could care less if the man was a scientologist.  Most politicians only align themselves with a religion because it gains votes by people who are silly enough to think that what they say is actually the truth.  A quick look at Romney's voting records will indicate that he is not qualified to be running as a conservative.  But there we go again with that line about silly people beliving what a politician says can ever be true.

I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

Great, and since Obama says he believes the 2nd Ammendment is an individual right and that he isn't going to mess with guns, I guess we can take him for his word.  Yes, politicians always tell the truth, and not whatever it takes to get elected. :o
