Cylinder Bore 12Ga Shotgun barrels
« on: January 26, 2012, 05:32:33 AM »
I just finished looking through the H&R, barrel accessory program site for a plain (non screw in choke) barrel in cylinder bore.  I couldn't find it listed as an option, I know H&R use to make them, since I have a older Tracker (with iron sights) in that choke.

My questions are:
Are they still available, even though their not listed on their website?  Did H&R ever make a cylinder bore 12Ga barrel with a plain bead sight?

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

OSR,

Not sure if H&R or NEF ever made cylinder bore barrel with a bead sight.   I would however, be a quick project to buy an 27.5" barrel and cut it too the length you want and install a new bead.  You probably need to cut off about 2" to remove the entire choke.  You can verify the choke has been removed by measuring the ID of the barrel after trimming.

Yeah That ~ Just cut down any H&R shotgun barrel to remove the choke... any gunsmith/machinist can do this for very little cost.

If they ever made one with a cylinder bore and bead sight I've never heard of it. Lots of home brew shortys though.

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

Thanks for all the answers.

tacklebury - Did the Tracker I, have a bead sight?  I ask because I have a 24" Tracker barrel which I purchased new in 1995, but it has iron (rifle type) sights.

OSR,

IIRC, the Tracker I had factory front and rear open sights, at least the 12 ga model I just to have was shipped that way.

Rifle sights.  It was the real metal version Williams style ramp with no fiberoptics because it was long before they did those.  ;)   Guy I know has it and I'm doing my best to get him to sell it to me.  He'll never shoot it, but he's a tough one to let go of any gun except to family.  hehe

OSR, I have the pre-Tracker I, 'Buck' barrel c/w open sights. Just to know, I tried 12ga. field loads and if I pull it up and shoot it like a bird barrel gun it throws the shot fine. I had thought it would be a swap barrel set-up,, but I havent put the bird barrel back on since.
