Leading in .45/.410 barrel
« on: January 26, 2012, 11:01:47 AM »
During an inspection of my 10" .45/.410 barrel I noticed heavy leading just in front of the chamber and tapering off toward the muzzle.  I assume this was caused by shooting soft .45 colt loads and the bullet jump with this barrel.  I have not shot any hot loads, or very many rounds at all, through this barrel.  Does anyone have a sure fire method of removing the lead?

Lewis Lead Remover. Do a search and you will probably find one. It is piece that screws onto a cleaning rod that has a rubber bushing that a piece of brass screen type wire folds over. You pull it through the bore and it cuts the lead out quickly.  Cylinder and Slide  makes something called Deleading Wool. It looks like a pot scrubber. You are supposed to cut a piece off and wrap it around a cleaning brush that fits tight and it is supposed to cut the lead out also. Midway has it product # 179-836  $5.99

I use "Chore Boy" copper pot scrubber to remove leading. Cut a piece off that's big enough to wrap a couple layers around a bore brush then brush like you normally would after soaking the barrel in solvent. It works like a charm.

I do the same thing but add a quick spritz of Kroil first.  Easiest way to remove lead.
If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong.
