No I havent seen it, but if I thought I could sell my nearly new marlin 1895 to someone to get a henry 45-70, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I shot my dads 30-30 and I love it! smooth and that tube loading system is my preference without a doubt. If anyone gets to shoot one, lemme know how it goes.

I would like to know also since I no longer have a 45-70 lever gun anymore. I did have a Marlin 1895 but it wasnt the best rifle I have ever owned and got traded off for a Remington 700 in 7mm mag . I also like the sights on the Henry better than the Marlin.

If I werent having relationships issues with my 7MM WSM I would volunteer to be the guinepig on this one. If I were having the same issues with my marlin 1895, it would be a done deal. I am going to see if my old man will get into one, he's a bit of a henry freak! If he does, I'll shoot it and let you all know. EJ

They are ugly but I'd buy one with an uncheckered stock.

I think the tube feed on it it the absolute best feature. I have a marlin 1895 and love it but I have the side push feed on it.

I believe it will open up under recoil and the tube will fall out, but we'll see.

I had a plan to sell my slightly used marlin 1895 and use the proceeds to buy a henry 45-70 but since these things hit the market, the marlin 1895 market has taken a serious dive. Looks like I am still a marlin 45-70 shooter.

How strong are these actions?  Will they repeatly take Garret or Buffalo Bore ammo?

I called them and as well sent an e-mail. Kevin sent a reply, see below:
Hi Eric,

Thank you for owning a Henry!  Our .45-70 will be able to handle the
buffalo bore ammunition no problem.

I can't imagine the Henry hurting Marlin.  It's so expensive.

I should have mentioned the USED marlin 1895 market. Theres more of them in my area than I have seen in a long time, therefore, the prices are lower for used units driving the trade in price of mine down substantially. The new market? your right, I dont think marlin will notice much. EJ

No it's quite different.  Henry hasn't cause the glut of Marlins.  Can you even buy one?

What's different other than the loading gate, accessories and making it look a little different did they change the lock up system?

No loading gate and using a tube like a .22 is quite different to me.

The action does look simmilar, I kinda like the tube feed better. I don't like the checkering at all though. I'd have to see them side by side, before I could pick one. Just my 2 cents. :)

It looks like they are using Marlins design.

Wait wait wait, who's using who's design??????

"The Henry rifle, invented by Benjamin Tyler Henry, a gunsmith employed by Oliver Winchester in 1860, used a centrally located hammer rather than the offset hammer typical of muzzleloading rifles, and this hammer was cocked by the rearward movement of the Henry's bolt. The Henry also placed the magazine under the barrel, rather than in the butt-stock, a trend followed by most tubular magazines since.
[/size]John Marlin, founder of Marlin Firearms Company, New Haven, Connecticut, introduced Marlin's first lever-action repeating rifle as the Model 1881. This was chambered in rounds such as the 45/70 and 38/55. Its successor was the 1895 solid top design which we know as the model 336 today. It also gave rise to the Marlin Model 1894, which is still in production today."

Today's Henry is nothing like the original Henry.

True.  But without the original henry, the marlin might not exist.

My dad has a 30-30 with the tube feed and I must say that I really like it better than the push-feed marlin/winchester design. Hes put a few hundred through it and he doesnt even shoot his win model 94 anymore. He and I both have had feed error, in other words, they look like they are all the way in but they are not, on the winchester and marlins we own and are really glad that henry made somethign for us. If you like the push feed better, more power to you.

They are very heavy and they tend to jam but if you want a Henry you'll have to learn to live with it.

Hey swampy, if you have one of those henry 45-70's, how about a range report??  Cause I'd love to hear it - since you seem to have experience with that gun.

My henry lever doesn't jam.  Ever.

And yeah, its a bit heavy, it's got an octogon barrel.  That's why I bought it.
