CZ 527 223 Carbine and questions

I just bought a usedCZ  527 Carbine in 223 and was wondering if anyone else has one and what are some of the good points and bad as well.
i dont own a chrono and I am wondering what kind of velocity loss I will be getting out of the 18.5 in 1 in 12 twist barrel ?
I am going to use it for deer hunting with a max range of 200 yards and more than likely under a 100. wondering if the velocity loss will allow me to use the tandard loads sayu a remington 55 gr soft point without any bullet blowup.

I wouldnt count on any fragmentation charts for the 20'' m16 if thats what you mean? It would depend on the bullet, im currently loading some 60 gr sp v-max bullets, those obviously wouldnt do well. The 60 gr winchester and barnes x bullets seem to be good choices. I'd either buy or handload something with a tougher bullet. Good luck

You can expect to see 25-30 FPS difference in velocity for each inch of barrel length difference at most and probably less with the 223.  The military M4 carbine only loses 150 FPS with a 14.5" barrel as compared to the 20" M16A2 barrel when firing the standard 62 gain ball ammo.

Few .223 bullets are designed for shooting anything the size of a deer from a 1:12 twist barrel with the 53 and 55 grain Barnes TSX and the (maybe?) 60 grain Nosler Partition being the ones first to mind.  I'm not familiar enough with the construction of Remington .223 bullets to give you any thoughts on that but will note that other makers, such as Winchester, call their 55 grain bullets by the same brand name as heavily constructed big game bullets and it is only when you do a little homework that you find out that they are very lightly constructed varmint bullets.

Don't forget that bones will likely cause bullet disintegration with more lightly constructed bullets at any practical velocity.  Especially if you reload you might want to start with the three above as they are a lot tougher than anything else I can think of and should stabilize for you. 

Barnes does make 62 and 79 grain TSXs  but recommends 1:9 and 1:8 twist barrels respectively.  I've had quite good results with both but my barrel is a 1:7 twist.

My cz527 lux would not stabilize anything over 55gr. And 45gr Winchester white box was the one that shot really small, dime size groups. 
You need a faster twist to shoot heavier bullets..

  you might try WW 64 grain bullets..they shoot well in both my 222 and 223..they have 1=14 twist barrels...the bullet seems pretty tough..have heard WW designed it for those who insist on using the .223 on deer...

I have a CZ 527 American and have been using the 50 grain Remington soft points out of it on Javilina for the past three years.
We recovered one bullet it hit the Javilina at a little over 200 yards.  Broke a rib through the lungs off the top of the heart and out the off side shoulder and stayed just under the skin.  The bullet mushroomed nicely.
I shot one earlier that day with the same round and it was in and out.  I would not think twice about shooting the 50 to 55 grain soft points at a deer.  I think and own better rifles for the task.  But if that is what you are going to use it for and it is legal in your hunting area great.

Thanks guys, I got some 60 grain Federal premiums on the way to try and i am going to try the 53 grain Cor-bon load as well.

No but one is on my wish list.  Give me a little while to cross a few off the list above it.

I have paid for mine but haven,t had it sent to my gundealer  yet but I am sure looking forward to getting it! Probably will get it by the end of next week and I will let you know what I think of it.I also have some 223 ammo that I should be recieving soon.I Feel like a kid waiting for christmas !(I just turned 52)
