Not sure where to put this cause there isnt a general rifle forum, but I am familiar with yall on this forum and respect your opinions.  So if it needs to be moved thats fine.

SO, I may be going to work in the oil fields soon and making a lot more money than I am now and my wife has said that if I do I should get a gun to replace the ones I have had to sell through the years of us struggling.

So, if you had $1000 to get a rifle you always wanted, or if you have the rifle you always wanted, let me know what and why.  This isnt a if you could only have one thread.  I have others, but there are too many that I want to decide on, and Im probably forgetting  some.

It would be for any purpose.  I have a hunting rifle and a plinker, so it doesnt have to "do it all".  Thanks ahead of time.

Ask yourself...What shooting activity do you enjoy...And what special firearm would you like to have that would be dedicated to that activity? Your choice would then be more focussed... 8)

Since I wont be able to afford to do Cowboy Action Shooting anytime soon, I think I would really enjoy BPCR.  Im leaning heavily towards getting a Buffalo Classic .45-70 and spending some on reloading stuff for it then putting the rest in the bank or toward bills like I probably should.

Yeah none of the more modern gun competitions have ever interested me.  Eventually once I am out of school and have some time and money I want to do CAS, but for now I think I could swing enough for BPCR.  Now I just gotta to find somewhere not too far where there are competitions.

Being in school, married too, I think your best bet is to get that Buffalo Classic, spend some dough on a good reloading outfit, and use the rest of the money on your family budget. There will be time later on in life to indulge, right now, get something you can enjoy and still take care of your family. You can even have money left to have it rechambered to the 45/120! Wow. Be careful in that oilfield, I wore out my knees, back, and wrist's there before I went into the ministry, at 33! Ha. Work smarter, not harder. Stay in school, get smarter still, ha! Good luck young man.

Thanks Rev.  I think that is what I am gonna do.  Luckily I will only be working in the oil fields for a little while until my wife does her student teaching.  Then hopefully she can get on teaching and I can finish my school.  Then we can both have jobs that will let us spend more time with our  kids.

I appreciate everyones remarks.  I am going to go with the .45-70 Buff Classic, and some reloading stuff.

NO, Wrong.... Do what I suggested.....  ;D
The Buffalo classic is a great rifle and the 45-70 is a great round.  You can load from plinkers to cannons.

I recently saw a deal on a Pedersoli Sharps reproduction in 45/70.  I was going to suggest that, or a Savage 99 in 250-3000.  Or a nice Garand.  Or a Ruger #1 in some oddball caliber.........

Sounds like you wound up in the same field.
