'K' s/n
« on: January 28, 2012, 07:00:48 PM »
I have a New Englander and a Hawken barrel that have a 'k' starting the serial number. Does that mean 'kit' ? Did kit barrels come blued or raw?
The barrels I have are quality blued, I wonder ?
Many moons ago I blued an oooooooooold wall hanger with a 00 rosebud, it actually came out pretty nice. I still blue small parts myself.

     Bless youall,    P.A.

'k' at the beginning of a t/c serial # does mean kit gun. early barrels came in the white later they came already blued. i've bought renegades that came both ways. as i understand it unblued ones were not covered by warranty as t/c had no control over heat/chemicals/filing/sanding/finishing methods used by buyers. for what it's worth and have a good'en friend, bubba.

What bubba said.   And you can run across guns with the "K" at the end of the serial number, as well as guns with a "K" in the barrel channel of the stock but with no "K" in the barrels serial number.

IOW, during the glory years when TC had so many models of traditional muzzies shop proceedures were pretty loose.   When parts were gathered from stock to assemble complete firearms or kits, some left the factory with different era (variations) of parts, and some were marked differently as well.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I do quite a mix-n-match myself. Hawken with PennHunter carbine barrel, WhiteMtn with Hawken barrel, Hawken[54stock] with Renegade barrel[50], GreyHawk on a NE stock [wood], etc.

The one that made me curious is the NewEnglander barrel with a 'k's/n. I didn't know the NE came in kit form. When my collection hits the market they may be hard to describe.

Thanks Gents and Blessings to all.   P.A.
