Soot problem

Had a small fire at the house and now I have soot all over the lenes of my rifle scopes , anyone know whats best to use for cleaning ? Need something that will not scratch the glass , yet will remove the crud .
 
Any ideas ?

Sorry to hear about your fire. I would call a scope manufacturer and ask them.
I'd hate to give you a bad idea and ruin your glass. Good Luck

Ash can contain grease as well as metal particles.  Big problem, no easy cure.

Pm graybeard, I think I read he worked in the optics industry at one time. Maybe he knows.

If it were me I believe I would start with canned air to blow off everything I could and then go to a soft brush. Then probably a eyeglass cleaner liquid & wipe off with the glass cleaning cloths.

Got to thinking about your riflescope Delima. If there Leupolds, now might be a great time to send them in for a cleaning & checkup.

for general cleaning burris recomends a q- tip and rubbing alcohol. it may cut the soot.

I wouldn't be afraid of warm water and dawn detergent to start with.
