Anyone using WLP primers with H110/296 in 44 mag?
« on: January 29, 2012, 01:52:24 PM »
I normally use CCI magnum primers with H110/296 in my 44 mag loads, but was unable to get them today.  I picked up some Winchester WLP primers that say they are for "standard or Magnum" loads.  Has anyone here used them successfully with H110/296?

I've been using them with H110 & 240gr XTP.  Seem to work fine.  Haven't used any other primers with the H110, so I can't compare.  I started with the Win primers because of the flexibility of using same primer for mag and special loads.

As long as you dont try downloading and dont shoot where its going to be below zero you probably wont have a problem.

A little late for the reply , but....Kevin , I had the same problem , couldn't find the CCI 350s , gave the WLPs a try.  Worked fine , I use a WLP with 24 grains of W-296 under a 240 gr XTP.  Good stout load without going overboard....and shoots well in all my 44 mags.

I have used a lot of the WLP in my 41 mag and they worked just fine.  Don't know if I've shot much at 0 or colder - I'd have to look but I wouldn't be too worried even then.  I really liked just having one primer for all uses for a while.  And I figured that the Win primers were made to work with 296 since that was a Win powder.  I use quite a bit of H110 and some 296  (same stuff yeah) in my 41 hottest loads.
