TC Renegades
« on: January 31, 2012, 11:40:57 AM »
I got the first one from an online friend, it was just the stock and so i bought a .50cal barrel for it, stripped everything from the barrel, steel trim and stock.  Browned all metal and got the stock looking pretty again. No stain used, just Truoil finish.

Before,

After I finished stripping and applying truoil. No stain! All steel trim and barrel had been antique browned.

First time out with the rifle at 60 yards with 80gr Pyrodex RS, 250gr Powerbelt Aerolite. I think im on to something good!

And then a few days ago i made a partial trade for this .54cal TC Hawken. I will most likely just rob the barrel off it and then sell the complete stock.

Nice looking but how do they fit in the MODERN Inline Muzzle Loading Rifles & Shotguns category?

I see.
So your saying that because you shot a modern bullet through them that they now somehow qualfy as a Modern Inline Muzzle Loader, I think the traditionalist would argue that. I'm sure that if you were to show up at Friendship with a Modern Inline Muzzle Loader that you were able to shoot a patched roundball through they (the traditionalist) would run you off the grounds.

Stay clam. There is no need to YELL, we can't hear you when you do anyway.

Not blasting, just asking. Post something about your Inline over on the Traditional forum then you'll see blasting.

GBO Rules, if its not pure lead " candy coatings not allowed", it can not be listed under the traditional forum.

Anything else?

Is the twist 1:48?  I've been tempted to try some sabots outta my .45 Hawken.

I see, that's kind of a crazy rule but I know how they (the traditionalist) want to stay pure.

I'm not sure what the twist are in 455's rifles are but a 1:48 might not be a enough for the sabots, the barrels that Knight used on their 45"s had a 1:30 twist. I guess you'll just have to try some a see how they act.

Yeah my renegades have the 1:48 twist.

Don't count sabots out though! Some do really darn good with the 1:48 twist. Im shooting some big 454 grain conicals out of a cabelas hawken with a 1:48 twist and its under 1 1/2" at 100 yards. With that twist, i should NOT be getting this kind of accuracy. Just as the old saying goes, You never know until you try.

Bigblock , your right on that some of my 1 in 48 twist shoot conicals and some prefer PBR's, you just never know till you do the trigger time on them

with the 1-48 twist use shorter bullets with the sabots . i tried  some real short bore size bullets in a 1-66 twist and it does good

If you want to write about shooting sabots out of your flintlock, GBO wants it in with the inline guns. OK by me, I guess.

Interesting and kind of goofy debate above.  Sabots are modern, Renegades are traditional.  Not sure why it got so much press though.

Couple of years ago I found a handfull of .54 sabot left on the bench at the range, rummaged through my shooting box and came with some 250 grain cast .45s, tried them in my .54 CVA barrel and they did pretty good.
Seem to recall that they shot close to the same POA as my 90 grains of 3F hunting load.

270 grain .44 Speer Gold Dots and 300 grain Hornady XTP's shoot just great in sabots in my .50 Renegade with 75 grains of Triple Seven.
