15" 7.08 Project.........
« on: January 31, 2012, 03:28:12 PM »
I have put together a 15" 7.08 Encore pistol with a muzzlebreak. My goal is to make this my go to gun. Im waiting on my forearm to come in the mail and then she will be complete. She carries Burris Z rings with a Burris 2x7 w/ ballistic plex reticle.
Seeing as to how I dont reload Im wanting to know what factory round is a good round for it. Im wanting to get her dialed in out to atleast 300yrds. And is there someone else that has a 7.08 pistol thats shooting factory rds and how does it perform?
She will be used for whitetail, yottes and anything else that comes up in the cross hairs.

I have a pro hunter in 7mm-08, love it.  I'm shooting Pri Partisan 139g psp.  ($15 a box).  They shoot good, and do the job on deer.  It's hard to steady that gun though to shoot long distances.  I can hit a paper plate every shot at 200 yards but it's not the pistol or the ammo preventing longer shots it's being able to steady the gun.  I have a Nikon Encore scope and the long eye relief shows the slightest of movement, but if it were easy it wouldn't be as fun....

Yeah they can be a bit heavy for off hand shooting . I plan on using shooting sticks with mine and Im wanting to get her dialed in at 200yrds hopefully with a 1" group. I have a Burris 2-7x32 scope with the ballistic plex reticle. I havent shot her yet, Im waiting on a forearm I had made for her to come in the mail. I see 140gr bullets are recommended but Im curious as to what everyone else is using.

I use shooting sticks, and the combination is minute of dead accurate, but honestly sometimes I think it would be more useful with the open sights.   My Nikon shows and magnifies every tiny bit of movement.  I think it would still be a 200 yard killing machine with open sights.  That being said...I doubt I will ever change it, love it!!

I have two and I really like them both, less expensive than others of same quality, I like the bdc reticles and I have the Nikon software on my phone so I can look at the charts while I'm sitting in my deer stand.  The problem is with my encore the long eye relief just magnifies every slight movement...

Thats the same thing I ran into with my 3-12 burris thats why I went to a 2-7 hoping that it will reduce some of the jitters. I finally got the forearm I ordered in today now to get her to the range and see how she performs.

asquires2,  try shooting on 2 or 3 power. The lower powers show less wiggle and it dosen't affect your brain as much. I use 2x7 burris also and I shoot better at 2x than at 4x every time.   Pat

Thats what I was thinking too. I have been to the range with it yet but just playing around the house the 2-7 doesnt seem as critical as the 3-12. I cant wait to put some rounds threw her. Seeing as to how I dont reload Im hoping the 140gr Remmys I picked up work out for me.

I finally got her to the range (indoor range) just to get a feel for her and shes SWEET! With the 2-7 scope she is not as shakey as the 3-12 off hand not to mention with the break she feels like a 357 to me. Now to make it to a rifle range. I had a friend make up a load (140 gr) and he says shes shooting 3/4" @100yrds and with his match loads(168gr) he was shooting one hole 5 shoot groups at 50yrds. I cant wait to hit the big boy range with her!
