Talo 357 -44 mag
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:17:21 AM »
Are these available as complete guns. I dont see it in the new catologue. By the time I send in for the barrel I am over 200 dollars. Wondering as what is the price I can get a whole gun for?

The Talos, 357, 44 & 45-70, were built for a distributor and became available from a number of different retailers.  Budsgunshop.com, Kentucky Gun Co. and a bunch of others had them.  I also saw a few of them offered on gunbroker.  I haven't seem many of them listed as NIB recently.

Look for the Talo Trappers by their model number, SB1-35T, SB1-44T and SB2-47T, I bought the last 45-70 from Bud's a couple months ago, they don't list the 357mag any more.

Ye I saw that one on Gunbroker and the one at buds but for 265 with a synthetic stock and them have to pay the 30 transfer I am going to pass. My real want for the Talo was the open sights and I even thought about getting the standard 22 but the extra 100 ft second in the long run wont make a difference and then I would have to have open sights installed. I also have an extra SB2 receiver that had a trigger job done to it so I will be sending in and paying the $200 for the talo barrel and put a straight wood stock on it and of course ream it to Maxium. My 5 year old is going to have a blast shooting the 38 out of it. Cant wait to get it back and I havent even sent it out yet.

Davidson's hasn't listed any of the Talos for quite a while.  :-\

You're sending in a SB2 receiver right? You would not get one with the purchase of a complete gun. ;)  Just my 2 cents worth...

Dinny- yes it is a sb2 that Brian has previously done a trigger job to. Not that a sb1 hasen't been used when reamed to Maxi but I have the extra receiver and the extra strength of the sb2 is something I definately want.

Just picked up the .357 Talo Handi from the tfl dealer today. Nice trigger, stiff open-close (which should work itself out), the usual  blah fit and finish characteristic of new-age American guns....and an obviously canted rear sight which screams "sloppy." Guess I'll shoot it a bit before I send it back to the factory ......

Here is an uninformed question, but what does TALO mean.  I see it used but can't figure out what it means.

From the www.taloinc.com website: "Special Edition Firearms for Discriminating Collectors.  TALO is a wholesale buying cooperative serving the independent sporting goods dealer since 1965."   Apparently, they arrange "special editions" of guns with major firearms manufacturers. Would've been nice if the quality was a bit higher to go along with the "special edition" moniker. Other than that, I never heard of them until very recently and have no idea what TALO stands for, if anything....

I have an H&R Handi .44 Mag Talo. What a sweet shootin' little rifle. I could carry it all day!! It`s a shame they discontinued them.

The Talos were special orders by Talo, they were only produced in limited numbers, they weren't a standard H&R offering that was discontinued.

Good point Tim. What I would really like to see is the  22 inch wood/blue .44 mag with sights brought back and preferably with the SB2 frame.

That's a topic for the H&R Wish List in the FAQs.  ;)

Wishing you luck in finding one.  They seem to have mostly come and gone, sadly.  I recently got mine just before New Years, though, so there may still be some out there.

If you do find one, in whatever caliber, you might want to re-stock it.

I'm going to look into getting a much better rear sight.  And reposition/move it back.  The Williams that comes on it is horrible since it has non-repeatable adjustments.  You just loosen a screw and slide it for chrissake.

But damn the idea is/was a really good one.  Great plinking rifle that can double as a hunter if needed.

I prefer a scope myself, iron sights and old eyes aren't a good combination.   :'(

I'm actually tearing up and needing Kleenex to wipe my eyes on that one.  A .45-70 scoped with a Loopy and the stock change and short barrel.  Awesome!

I actually love wood stocks, so I will keep my eye out for an older .44 mag SB2 22 inch barreled wood stocked Hadi :)

No need to do that, all H&R single shot stocks are interchangable, pallet wood Pardner shotgun stocks are listed in the FAQs all the time, swap em out yourself or trade em, myself I love the checkered syn stocks a lot more than any pallet wood.  ;)

Does H&R have these barrels on hand (or something .357 mag with open sights) if you send it in for barrel & fitting?
