Why do politicians feel the need to Lie
« on: February 01, 2012, 01:09:16 PM »
This is not a Rep vs Dem who lies more thread, It's a general comment regarding all politicians.
Why do they feel they need to lie or make non-factual statements?

Gov. Jan Brewer came under fire for making conflicting statements about her father's military service. In this case Brewer appears to have misstated her father's military record.

Gov. Jan Brewer said in a recent interview that her father died fighting Nazi Germany. In fact, the death of Wilford Drinkwine came 10 years after World War II had ended. During the war,  Drinkwine worked as a civilian supervisor for a naval munitions depot in Hawthorne, Nev. He died of lung disease in 1955 in California.

The Nazi comments... they are awful," she said, her voice dropping. "Knowing that my father died fighting the Nazi regime in Germany, that I lost him when I was 11 because of that... and then to have them call me Hitler's daughter. It hurts. It's ugliness beyond anything I've ever experienced."

 -  I can overlook small embellishments most times by our political leaders, but grow weary of this kind of stuff just to curry favor or empathy from a particular group of people.

As a person who comes from a long family legacy of military service to this country, while I commend her fathers service to our country I think non factual statements such as these do a disservice and injustice to those service men/woman who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country.

Not standing up for her But don't most people have two grandfathers?
At one point I had 4 (four) grandmothers.
Dad's Mom
Mom's Mom
Mom's Step Mom, Her first husband was killed as a test pilot and his name is on the Smithsonian wall in the test pilot exibition.  Is he my grandfather, kind of? Only because he is my Grandmothers first husband?
and
Step Mom's Mom.
Not having heard what she said could she be talking about another relative.

I say that my father died in WWll which is a lie.
He died the day after his discharge in Sept. 1945--it is a moot point as far as I am concerned.
All Americans were involved in WWll and fighting the war. Was his death as a results of the work he did? I dunno---but he was as involved as Rosie the Riviter, the Supply Sgt. stationed in England or a truck driver in the Reb Ball Express.
That generation--the whole of them--was the great generation.

Now, back to the original question.
Election to any office has become an ego trip---I do not see many true statesmen anymore.
The say and do what is necessary to gain election.
The peopleelect on the basis of popularity----who is more to blame?

I don't know that all of them are liars.
Could be for all I personally know.

But about 30 years ago we had an extremely liberal senator from here who when he left D.C, said part of the reason he was leaving was because of the huge incentive to be corrupt. Probably one of the few things he's said that I can respect. But for him to say that makes sense that today many are liars. Got to protect the golden goose.

They are pathological liars and don't "feel" one way or the other about lieing, they only "regret" when they get caught and still continue to lie and don't suffer for it because they get re elected. ear

Politicians lie because if they told the truth we'd never elect them.
