Cost
« on: February 02, 2012, 03:03:58 AM »
I have been enamored like many by the beauty of the Medallion series A-bolts, and there quick handling and light feel. But I am confused. I have carried a BAR for many years and appreciate its quick second shot when needed as well as the lack of "gloss" advertising my presence. When I compare the cost of used rifles, the BAR is less than most of the bolt action series. Surely the cost of production and the cheaper to manufacture plastic stocks can not compare to the cost of production of the BAR. Is it just demand or am I missing something? The accuracy is about the same.

Been shooting a boss BAR for years, had to camo mine,it did have lotsa gloss.Didn't they change the receivers when they went to shortrac and longtrac and synthetic stocks? I have not examined one.Incidentally,My other main deer gun is a stainless stalker,both30/06. The cost may have something to do with the demand. ?? Wish the X-bolt came in a lefty, but haven't heard of one yet.

Just a thought about the price differences.  When a man decides to ditch his semi auto, it might be because of accuracy problems or jamming problems.  Both are impossible to diagnose before the purchase.  May need a good cleaning, or reloading with small base dies.  I used to have a green box set of 7mm BAR dies, and I use small base for my old 742 in 30-06.  Trim length is critical as well.
I've seen some semi autos that gave great accuracy.

Though enamored, I have not given up what I consider to be a great rifle. Heavy at the end of the day, but what is needed no matter the situation. I am just confounded by what prices are for these fine bolt action rifles. I have a custom 03 in the safe that does as well as the BAR, but when I leave to hunt, so does the Browning.
